Installing hood springs is a huge pain even though I was installing lighter hood springs from a Dart Lite and FWD Daytona/Shadow on my A-bodie. I think vise-grips, channellocks and/or a big screwdriver were involved. However, the only concern with welding on the spring is that the heat created a weak spot that can eventually break. I had an original Dart Lite spring break and it wasn't modified in any way. That's why I tried the Daytona/Shadow springs, which were a bit lighter than the originals, so I still needed a prop stick to support the "Lite" hood. I tend to be over-cautious but if/when the spring breaks unexpectedly, somebody could get hurt.
