OK. When I bought my car ( 70 340 Duster) few years back the PO gave me a box that contained all the original A/C components compressor, lines , etc...This stuff has been stored like this for 10+ years. What needs to be done to make this work properly.. I live in Texas and A/C is a must... Thanks.

Do you know anything about working on A/C systems? If you do shoot me a PM.

Yes, Scott is dead nuts on. You should have a factory service manual already. Get one if you don't.

So this is another of them thread where somebody asks a question and disappears.

Patience my friend. Only been 2 or 3 days. Maybe your avatar scared 'em away

THAT is a good possibility. A/C is something I know a bit about and can help him a lot though. I hope he comes back.

do you want to keep it 100% original type of a/c? if it doesn't matter i would go with a vintage or classic a/c.

I want to keep the factory look. I can bolt it all back up but just wondering will everything be OK after sitting open so long. Thanks.

It should be fine but there are a a couple of things. One, put a new drier on it. It will never cool to its maximum with an old drier. The dessicant is probably saturated from being open and absorbing moisture over a long time. Two, if this is an old R12 system, it probably has oil in it that is not compatible with R134A. That means you will need to replace every single seal in the system with those that are compatible with R134A and flush all the hoses good. Some even replace the expansion valve. I usually do. Three, it is also recommended that you replace the A/C compressor if it is an original R12 unit. It will be almost impossible to get all of the R12 oil out. Any that remains will attack the new seals and will cause leaks. There are oils on the market now that will work with all different refrigants but the older R12 stuff was pretty dedicated. Don't forget when reassembling, make sure to oil the seals and the threads of any of your connections.

So how do you flush the hoses? Compressed air or ??Can you still even buy a new compressor like this one ??If so where ? Thanks for your help.

I always just use brake cleaner and compressed air to flush the hoses. It evaporates completely. Works good. Yeah you can get them. It will be a reman but you can certainly get them. I would try O'Reilly's. The compressor model is an RV-2. Too bad you ain't in Georgia. You could drive it over and we could have an A/C party.

If that is you in your avatar pic there wouldnt be any party.. LOL. I will dig everything I have out and get some pics for you to make sure I have what I need. Thanks for your help.
