TMZ reported Davy Jones -- lead singer of The Monkees -- died after suffering a heart attack this morning.
An official from the medical examiner's office for Martin County, Florida confirmed they received a call from Martin Memorial Hospital informing them that Jones had passed away.
A rep for the singer said Jones suffered a heart attack at his home this morning ... and was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Jones is survived by his wife Jessica and 4 daughters from previous marriages. He was 66-years-old. Jones was married to Jessica Pacheco -- his 3rd wife.
Jones joined The Monkees in 1965 ... along with Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork ... and together they churned out a bunch of hugely popular songs including 3 number 1 hits -- "Daydream Believer," "Last Train to Clarksville" and "I'm a Believer."

The group was initially cast by TV producers who wanted to create a scripted series about an actual rock n' roll band. But the group exploded, and Jones in particular became a Beatles-caliber heartthrob.
The Monkees songs were covered by huge bands like Coldpay, and Smash Mouth's version of "I'm a Believer" was famously featured in "Shrek."

Davy's last performance was on February 19th in Oklahoma -- the night before, he performed "Daydream Believer" and "It's Nice to Be with You" at the BB King Blues Club in NYC ... and he looked totally fine.

Damn, when I was a little kid the Monkees got me into music. Say what you might about the pre fab 4 but this guy was an icon. Some of that music still holds up and they had some great writers behind them..shame at 66.

I hope it was not drug related, as has taken so many performers. My sisters and their friends loved Davy Jones. He was the first safe "pocket boyfriend" that teeny-boppers dream of. They loved his cute British accent. The band was started to promote their TV show. The show mostly flopped, but their songs were a hit. They were very good musicians and singers. I think Mickey was the best singer ("I'm a Believer"), and he is still with us.

Sad. I remember watching those reruns as a kid.

Funny things is, my kids watch "Big Time Rush" all the time on the Disney Channel and I sit there and laugh about what a blatant ripoff of "The Monkeys" the show is. Same slap stick comedy along with "teeny bopper" music. For some reason, I doubt their songs will have the staying power the some of The Monkeys' hits have.

RIP Davy Jones

I'm surprised that nobody posted this icon in honor of him....

He has a house about a half mile from me. I never seen him there but I seen him at the local watering hole all the time. Hell of a nice guy but turned into an idiot with alcohol. My home town has about 900 people tops. His house was nothing special. Nothing to be expected. He will be missed greatly here in this little town.

Wow, I just saw him in a concert, at EPCOT, not that long ago, he was one of my favorites. God Bless. MMG

Gary, you may have been watching the reruns as a kid, but I was watching when they were first air'd.
Guess that shows how old i'm getting...lol

Right there with you MileHighDart. Kids in my nieghborhood gathered at my house to watch their first show. I also got to see them in concert,in St. Louis for my birthday. It was great for a bunch of 14 year olds!! RIP Davy!!

Sad to hear of his passing. I watched those shows when they were originally broadcast, and really enjoyed them despite the way they were brought together as a "band" for the show.
RIP, Davey.

I LOVED that show as a kid! Hope he goes to heaven and gets his wings.......

Fly, Monkee, Fly!!! :angel12:

I enjoyed watching syndicated reruns in the early 70's ; and I gained an deeper appreciation for them during their Summer of 1986 renessiance .

Here's my number 1 fave song of theirs :

As the Monkees got more power over the music it got trippy and better.
