Seems like my budget can't support my ideas Lol. Do I need a dual pattern cam? Headers or manifolds. Cylinder heads, 302's or speedmaster cylinder heads? Do I need good port velocity for what I'm wanting to do? Compression ratio most likely 9.25:1. I don't want to put money into factory heads if a good set of aftermarket heads would be about the same money. Stall converter speed 2,400 and a 3.55 gear ratio. Wanting to start getting parts soon Hopefully, I'm trying not to buy things twice or something I don't need for my application.

Seems you don't know what you are doing regarding speccing an engine combo. Why don't you just go to a reputable shop and tell them what your HP/Torque goal is and how you plan to use the car and have them build an engine. You will be money ahead. Buy once, cry once.

What are you building? 'Teener, 360, 273? What are your goals?
Factory heads you can have them gone through, or aftermarket heads you can wait 6 months for and still need to have them gone through... Just sayin'.

A solid flat tappet and a good flowing head will get a reliable, relatively street friendly car into roll bar territory. Nothing really fancy.

Step 1- define the goals and vehicle usage

Is there here a core motor already on hand?

Step 2- determine the budget, and all the things that need to fit within the budget(carb? Headers? Ignition?, etc)
If there isn’t a core already available, is buying one part of the budgeted amount?

Really think about what your wanting and what your budget is. It is hard to beat the price of the Blue Print crates with a local shop. I saw the prices quoted on a thread the other day. If I wasn’t building 340’s and need a motor, I’d go that route…. 8-10 grand goes quickly..

step 3:
Multiply step two X 3

“Need” and the probability of it being “beneficial” to your build are two different things. Consider it as part of the goal your seeking to obtain.
Headers or manifolds.
Same as above

I always suggest the best head you can afford.
This doesn’t mean to purchase a set of CNC’d 2.10 Int. Valve Indy heads for a grocery getter.

Yes, always. It’s part of the package. But I don’t think you have an idea on what is and what isn’t.
Compression ratio most likely 9.25:1.
This is bad since you should know with Absolute certainty what are you compression ratio is.
I don't want to put money into factory heads if a good set of aftermarket heads would be about the same money.
This is always the balance of things. It’s also part of the whole package. Something you should pretty much know already. But I’ll put it this way, if your not rebuilding the heads yourself, and the goal is 1.1 hp per cubic inch, or better. the aftermarket head is what you should be looking at.

This is part of the problem. For us here trying to help, your goals are not clear and your questions are all over the place. Then, you seem to argue. Your best bet is to come up with a goal and make a plan. Let’s start with, “The Goal!”

Excellent idea. Find that on the link below Dan;

You can buy very good heads and still bomb on the cam with no real benefit from the 12 lb heads. You can take a sanding roll to your iron heads and smooth them about 1 inch into the castings and knock any other buggers off in there, then get a matched cam and have all the fun you want. Remember you can ALWAYS go faster but at what price and in my case what time frame? Sometimes you gotta get it going and have some fun instead of pondering a build for 12 years.....ooh, did I say that?

Who did that song "pretending"? Wasn't it Eric Clapton? That's what this makes me think of, vs Mr Rogers
Could be. But I grew up watching Mr Rogers and his “land of make believe” which might make some remember this great song?

Actually it makes me remember this one:

Much better!

I'm grown, I don't listen or watch kids stuff.

Try to focus on the topic at hand. I thought that this is a car forum not a rerun of kiddy shows.

It is a car forum. We like to help people who HAVE cars and who HAVE engines they are actually working on. If you actually have something, tell us what it is.

I now see that you are a very serious enthusiast, please forgive me. :thankyou:
Having gotten that out of the way, Have you decided on which would be the best oil and filter to run? How about spark plug gap? Maybe air pressure on the tires? One big question I have for anybody is: will putting rain X on the windshield help with aerodynamics? LOL It’s endless.....

That's for sure. There's always something.
