turn = Tune
Did it kick back at 32*? If not just lock the thing out and install it there.

I didn't read the whole thread, don't have the...well anyways, what brand distributor are we talking about?????
If if it is a mp then take the heavy spring out, and slightly stretch the lite spring out a lil, you'll be miles ahead of where you are & what ur capable of doing.
cracked is right about just getting the initial set so you can get the carb in order as idling in the correct idle circuit instead of the mains.
as in... DIAL THE INITIAL TIMING AND CARB IN 1ST, THEN WORRY ABOUT THE TOTAL.
THIS ISN'T ABOUT DRIVING THE CAR RIGHT NOW, IT'S ABOUT FIXING THIS IDLE PROBLEM. once thats fixed move on to fixing the distributor.
1 thang at a time.
Dude... I'm done!!! Can't take this anymore.
It didn't kick back at 32 and you set it back to 27... WTF??? You don't follow what people have suggested.
Here's my last suggestion for you.... I won't respond any further.
Get the distributor instructions and lock the thing out, time it at 2-4* shy of kickback, not to exceed 36*, and run the thing. Mechanical advance on your engine is a TOTAL waste of time.
Then tune up the carb by resetting it to the baseline 1.5 turns out and getting the idle speed you need. Then make whatever minor adjustments to the idle mixture screws to get best idle.
