alternators

got 2 alts. they are both single field with ground, same style date codes of 67 n 69. So how do I Do this? Is it as easy as looks ? Just remove 1 field brush and the isolater, via the phillips skrew, n replace it where the un used ground WAS ?

Excuse my french, but what in the hell are you talking about??

You have two early alternators?

And one? or the other? or both? has been converted? to isolated field? and you ? want? to? convert? back to??? grounded / single field connection?

Your alternator(s) looks like the one on the left??

Or it looks like the rebuilder hack job below??

So if you are trying to get back to a grounded brush, you can either remove the SECOND insulated brush and replace it with the proper grounded brush

Or if you have a dedicated isolated field, you can simply make a jumper and ground either one of the two brushes.

If?? this? is what you are doing, make certain that there are ONLY two brushes installed, and that the ISOLATED brush is not grounded. The insulators can crack/ break and ground out

Thanks for the thoughts n wishes. local guy custom elec. rebuilder ( my shop teacher in the early 70s) said to me ya I can do that so can u, watch n learn. It cost ME LUNCH. Damn LUNCH was not cheep + his cocktails TOO. So the 2 alts I brought along were traded, including LUNCH for the desired dual field alt. that he just had lyin around. Like I care abou dates n codes. he is STILL laughing.Kind made his day + MINE 2. Fields included. My car was new when he was OLD back then.The only thing left 2 do go for a TEST RIDE, with him DRIVING. MY best day Yet never rode in the SHOTGUN SEAT of my car. YES HE DROVE the MYSTRESS LIKE WE STOLE HER, He was impressed, I got GOOSEBUMPS. DAMN nothing like OLDSCHOOL. He said to me BOY U DID GOOD!! Then we pulled pulled over, at local enforcements request. Damn he taught the officer shop class 2. No citations. SO how was your day?
