Im sure both of them stroker would fit in the large bucket. LOL
custom piston, with custom oil ring landings.
Sure would be nice to have a 440 small block mopar.

People alway ask me if i have a 440 under the hood. I could just say yes! Instead of explaining that its a stroked 360 with a 4 inch crank.:D
 
When guys are budget minded why do guys always jump in and recommend Stroker engines when a stock crank 360 can easily run 12’s, 11.s, or even mid 10’s. Don’t overspend and ruin the FUN.

If it's a fun daily driver = Stock replacement parts, bore job, make sure the valve don't leak and Have Fun.(stock replacement part = no balancing req.)

If fuel economy is any wears on you list aka a daily driver. You need to make sure the cam manufacturer understand this.(that applies to any level of performance you choose.)

It will not be a daily driver. But will get driven a lot. Fuel mileage not important. Im not interested in making a certain horse power range. I just want to get all the parts to work together like it should. Would I run it at the local drag strip. Sure. But not every week. Maybe ounce a year if that. I’m more interested in low end torque. Which is why I thought stroker.
I would like to use as many of the parts that I already have but if something doesn’t make since then I would change it. I’ll make a complete list of what I have later today.

You already have the 340 right? and you want bottom end torque.
I recommend a stroker all the way.
If you had a 360 already...I would be on the fence as to stroker or not..
The trick flow would be my choice for stroked or not!
I'm running the RHS cast irons heads on my stroker and vary happy with them. but, if the Trick Flows would have been out. i would have settled for alu.:D
 

what gear ratio do you have available.
I think you said it was a stick car right?
 
TrickFlow heads are a win win. Good for now with room to grow. Not if you little heart feels the need for a stoker and money is rarer than hens teeth look for a deal on used stuff or new stuff someone is selling to build a gen3. I got lucky and found a new just machined R3 with new Eagle Rods, 4 inch Eagle Stroker crank, diamond pistons, solid lift cam with ceramic lifters (sold them and bought EDM lifters) Indy360-1 heads, Indy intake, rockers, and a few other goodies for 7500.00

There are deals out there but you better be ready when they come along.
 
Here is the list of parts that I have at this moment. 340 block, 30 over, steel crank and rods. A complete msd system. Still in the box airgap intake. The block, crank and rods have been to the machine shop but I will have to get them check because they came with the car and I know nothing about them. As far as transmission goes. I have a freshly rebuilt 904, a 727 that needs rebuilt and the 904 that is currently in the car. I have a 8 3/4 rear end with 2 center sections. I’ll build that later. Gears will be what I buy new. Some one is going to ask why not use the crank and rods that I have. Well. i really want the bottom end torque that a 416 will have. And I have never had a stroker. But. If I used the 0 deck kB pistons and the trick flow heads I’m not sure if that would get me where I want to be. (Tire roasting torque). I would love to have a 4 speed but that will have to wait. As far as cam goes I’ll probly go with a custom grind because of what I have learned from this sight. So this is where I’m at. Use the crank I got or get a new stroker assembly and sell mine. Hope this info helps
 
A 340 with TF heads and a cam to match will fit the bill (Tire roasting torque).
But a stroker(If money is there) will give you even more torque ((Tire roasting torque). and can run a higher gear set which will make it friendly-er on the highway.

just some food for thought.
 
I think the 340s came with open chamber heads because they are above deck...
I currently have 596 cast heads 202 valves and a little bit of Port work. I have a 360 40 over with a stroker kit. The car runs awesome and believe me it can spin the tires at any time it wants to...
I started a thread on the Speedmaster heads a couple months ago I think it was and for the amount of time couldn't find anybody who'd had a major problem with them. As matter of fact I couldn't find anybody at all that had any problems with them. All I did find was old stories of hearsay that people used to have problems with them. And again even some of the people racing and doing machine work have had good results..
Anyways I ordered a set for 820 sent to the door...

I think about the first 18 or so Pages were talking about it and then for the last five or six pages of it we've been just bullshiting waiting for my head's to get here and get some pictures...

I should clarify that trickflow moved the rocker stand to improve the design and that's why stock rockers don't work. Its well worth it though because you actually have clearance between the springs and the rocker arm body so its a good thing. If you are tight on cash I will tell you a properly built 340 is no slouch in the torque department and will surprise you.

I'm not understanding this a little bit? I had 273 rockers on my car and now I have the Hughes rockers and they ate aftermarket. Is it a special aftermarket rocker or just any aftermarket rocker?

Because TF uses a longer than stock valve, they actually engineered the stands and saddles for it. So in some cases you won't need a B3 correction kit. Lead69 didn't need one.

So the stands are actually taller and the saddles moved away from the springs.

They are actually worth the money.

On the head you bought I'm not sure if the moved the stands and saddles. If they didn't, you'll certainly need a correction kit from Mike.
