Ok, I think I will consolidate and from here on post my boat questions in this thread lol. Hopefully there isnt too much more lol.
This one pertains to the steering box, that's located right behind steering wheel.
There is a long plastic tube that's capped at one end(no threads and its dry).
The other end has a white plastic end and sticks in steering box. It was partway hanging out of steering box covered somewhat in red grease. I'm assuming marine grade? What is the tube for? Do I grease it somehow? Google and you tube didnt come up with much.
Here is a link to one on Amazon that is similar.
It's the tube on lower left in pic with white cap.
Boat is 2005 17' Lund and 90 Mercury outboard.

The box has some sort of "gear" although I'm not sure you'd call it that and the steering cable is spiral wrapped. Some cables have a large nut device similar to the old screw--on style speedo cables. No idea what other clips and retainers modern setups may use to retain the cable

Normally the cable can be installed in either hole and reversed, depending on which side of the boat the cable is to go along.

The one "dead ended" short tube is simply to take up the "stick out" of the cable as you turn it it comes in and out of that end as the box is steered.

Maybe the cable simply came unscrewed?

I was able to push it back in, but it isnt "terribly" secure. I'll investigate further, thanks again.

Went out fishing yesterday after night shift and spotted this at the launch. Cool "vintage" boat! Del @67Dart273 may like this

Way too fancy for me, Steve. LOL. I don't suppose "Charger" has any connection at all to the old Chrysler boats
 
I just thought it was a cool old vintage boat. Motor "suits " it too! Not sure when outboard efi started, but this one looks AND sounded great!
Not sure if charger was related to Chrysler for this??

Ok, new question. I pulled boat out yesterday, water muffs on, fired right up but a water hose popped loose and was spraying in the cowl. I checked, but no idea where it came from. I checked online but cant find water lines schematics.

Yeah the wife would love that! A mirror is gonna be difficult but I'll try.
Water only comes out that tube with motor running and tap on. Only tap on, engine off....no water.

Steve, that is a lot of volume. I'm guessing that it is a feed from the water pump to the power head, that's the pump pump pushing the water out.

LOL...............I can't tell you how many times I've grabbed something from my wife's purse and didn't tell her :lol:
 
Yep turns out that shiny brass piece was a nipple. Had to remove lower cowl(ez pz) 8 bolts (8mm)and separated the halves slightly. Long needle nose pliers and on she went. Pushed other 2 lines up also. Checked telltale and pulled bugs out. Fired up and all good. Cowls off give me a chance at a look see. Pretty clean, no engine leaks, just slop from oil change spill.
Real test in the water this weekend hopefully.

Love that jackplate !
Had a buddy in GA with Bullet brand boat and older Bridgeport Mercury it would go so fast it would blow out over 86 mph and it would dam near wreck when motor lost contact with water ( Be careful ) looks FAST !!! Most folks probably never heard of this situation with VERY fast boats.
