Im kicking around the idea of building my 318 I know it would be easy enough to build a 408 stroker . Im just looking at the money factor to put out for the 408 and I kmow that the two are apples to oranges

i have lots of time.the dart i have now came with a souped up 318.it had a way to big of cam for the stall converter that was in it. i ran a bunch of 14 flat 1/4 mile times and that with in a 3300 pound A-body through 3 inch exhaust. i think with a better converter it wouod of ran in the 13 in the 1/4. ok with that said how fast do you want to go and how much do you have to spend?? mopar65

The best I ever got out of my old 318 with bolt on`s was 13.6. And that took alot of tuning to get that.

Looking for high 11s low 12s I know Im asking for a lot out of 318

I would build a 360 iinstead of a 318. Parts cost is the same and you are starting with a 42 ci advantage. A high 11 sec NA 318 will want lotsa rpm, gear and converter.

318's are no different than any other engine. Give it a decent set of heads, compression, cam and intake and exhaust, and it will run.

There's nothing wrong with building a teen, but what you're looking for will require a serious effort. Money wise, I doubt it's worth it. With that said, if I ever get the chance to go racing again, i'll probably build one also. It will definitely be on a budget and whatever it run's it run's. My on paper build will require a lot of gear and a moderate converter to get some decent 60' times. Fortunately you have a fairly light car to start with. I really like your new car, very cool. :thumleft:

You need a set of good heads flowing in the 270 cfm and up range.

I have a freind that runs a scamp with a 318 and 308 heads flowing big numbers.
Trans brake 904 -- 5000 stall -- 2700 lbs with him in it.
488 gears with a 28 or 29 inch tall tire i think.
He runs 10.70's--------
He just changed the cam.

Before this cam he was going high tens / low elevens with the .557 purple shaft cam.

He shifts at 7500/7500 and goes threw the traps at 7600 to 7800 rpm.

I have always liked the idea of going fast with a 318,but it won't be cheap.

yes 318 will need gear and rpm, my super stock 318 runs 10.22 in the 1\4 at 128.50 weight 3190, 9 to one compression. 60ft. time 1.34

Ken Etter out here in D7 has a 318 GT/HA..believe his is a Dodge Shadow..

Yes lets pics and video please

dmanRick;1970009950]That's awesome! Congratulations for running such a tough deal in S/S. If you get the chance to post some pics, i would love it .[/QUOTE]

They can handle spinning that high?? Maybe i'll build one for my next engine. I love high rpm engines.
