....does one just back the truck up to the garage....load it up....and haul damn near everything to the dump?
Guess I am a borderline hoarder. Have so much crap piled up everywhere in the garage. The shelves...the toolbox....storage room....damn near everything that "we may needo someday" ends up in garage...Right down to old t-shirts that will make "good rags".
Have pretty much everything I need to build another smoker....if only I had the space to do so.
I understood me being a slob in the garage when I was at 5he USPS 84 hours a week. Seems like I was more organized back then....Damn trainwreck...

I can get ahold of A&E and send em down with a bunch of trucks to haul that **** away for free, and you get free hoarding aftercare classes

we must be related....same here. I hate getting rid of stuff, I might need it someday. If I had a few acres I would have a lot more stuff. :)

Classes.....hmmm......probably just cut 5hem like I did most of my high school classes...

I do have 5 acres....

I swore I would never be like my Dad...but I am damn close. He had a gutter business for close to 30 years. Had 5 strokes, became disabled. Competitor bought his business. Walt worked for my Dad for years, he was well aware of my Dads ways....so he stayed clear of the home office when he cleared everything out. That was my job. Pieces of busted concrete blocks, all sorts of scrap lumber. A worm drive circular saw that fell off of a 3 story roof onto asphalt. I hauled it out to the curb on trash night prior to going to work. Next morning.....was all back in the garage. Went on 4 or 5 times...finally bribed the trash truck guys with a case of beer to help me haul everything out of the garage while my mother accidently lost my Dads brace that he needed to walk...

spread it over the yard with a yard sale sign. might get a few bucks :)

I learned to purge the inventory 25 years ago when I moved to Hawaii. We sold everything and reduced our life to forty-four 12x12x16 boxes.

A couple of years later when we moved back to the East Coast, I started needing to move around for my career. It became obvious quickly that I needed to purge stuff regularly just to maintain my sanity. Although we occasionally go looking for something we got rid of long ago, it's actually a rare occurrence.

We have adopted the following general rules for the past 25 years to keep everything in order...

1. If you haven't seen it in 2 years, you don't need it
2. If you haven't used it in over a year, you don't need it
3. If it doesn't work, is in parts, or isn't part of the plan for a current project (1 year time frame limit), you don't need it

For us, anything past that is simply hoarding for no good reason. Sure, I could keep everything and maybe 1% of the time I would have a need for it outside those parameters...but all I would be doing is saving myself is a couple of bucks occasionally, compared to a house full of junk...always.

The only exceptions are for 2 foot lockers filled with Family memorabilia that need to be preserved and will be kept always.

My biggest tax deduction every year is from the twice monthly slips from goodwill that we haul there to declutter. Lean & mean is what we like.

You are not alone.
Put alot of effort into hauling most of my useless piled up junk to the recycling station over the last few weeks. im done keeping stuff that will not be used.

You will find that walking over, tripping over, and moving these so called "treasures" in your life become more of a hindrance that anything. I am going through it now with my parents. They say back the trailer up and start slinging and what they are really saying is we just want to talk about getting rid of junk but not really lol... At this point I say sling it all and who cares what's in the piles. Life goes on.... My own property is now pretty much rid of junk and it really is nice to come home and not see crap laying around or having to do crazy cuts on my mower... I am just over it...

I know the feeling. Once was accused by the township of running a business out of my garage because of all the vehicles I had in the yard!! I am still purging 20 years worth of Dodge truck parts out of my garage and using the $$$ to buy tools and parts for my 70 duster.

I actually hired help, rented a cargo van, and made 4 trips to the dump in 1 day, a few years ago. Most of 2 loads was fiberglass insulation. There is a load of stuff still here that needs to go to the dump. I wasn't ready to let go of then. So much more that needs a new home. I've got the estate liquidate frame of mind now. Like the Will Farrow film, Everything Must Go.

Military was my downfall. So many years of not having much and can't take much. When we got out I made up for lost time. My poor kids when I die.

any 65 d100 stuff?

All this talk and no pics?? Lol
My garage aint big (500 sq ft) but jammed. Also another 3 or 4 farden sheds...
With dads passing I bought all of his woodworking stuff(router a couple planers, tablesaw etc etc) plus I inherited all of his sports memorabilia. ..that filled up close to a 150 sq ft bedroom.
I warned my mom and stepdad to get their affairs in order as they live 2 hours away in Toronto, own there own business and rent about 3000 sq ft of storage space for both business and personal stuff. My only sibling sister is useless doesnt own a vehicle lives in an apt in TO, so she will be nothing but a hindrance as she always has.
Im my own worst enemy as I despise not being able to find ****....but im usually the only one that touches it lol
Good luck all....

Im looking for 84 D150 stuff?

I keep tons of stuff. Never need any of it for decades. Only need the stuff the day after I toss it.
lol.. been there.. i finally said screw it.. got rid of a bunch of stuff.. if i need it i'll just buy it. probably at 3 times the cost..lol

i really have to clean out the upstairs in my shed again.. tons of crap laying around in there again..

Same here.My big problem now is all I have is a 15x22 single car garage..live in condo..no outside storage. 3 Feet of the 15 wide is taken up by cupboards my Wife wanted for her stuff( buys paper towels and TP every time is on sale..just one example) She did finally relent and give me one section which I immediately stuffed full of those old shirts and bath towels for rags you talk about plus my garage work cloths.I have shelves every possible place I can put them to store car parts for the Dart right now plus the trunk is full. When we sold out in Colorado we had 2 acres,a 40 x 60 shop and 2 chicken coops full of stuff. Took us a month of 3 days a week garage sales to purge +one trip to the salvage yard with 2300 lbs of scrap metal. We bought a Dodge Dually and a 40 foot 5th wheel and traveled the USA for 2 years. The rule we had then was if something came into the trailer something had to go out to make room. We started that here when we came off the road and bought the Condo but gradually the rule went away. Now the VietNam Veterans get a lot of stuff once a month and since this is a retirement community a lot of contractors work in town all the time so if it's something decent we just set it out by our back wall and it will be gone the next morning. Craigs list gets a lot of business also.Still have more than we need stuffed in every corner possible....Once a "Collector:thumbsup: always a Collector:lol:

I have the problem myself !!
I also have a gutter machine .lol
I am a contractor not just gutters.
I have a 56x40 shop with 816 sq'
Upstairs and an 8-21 lean too
And a 12x28 lean too and I don't have room shite everywhere .
I'm a pilot pile it her pile it there in a hurry!! If I was organized and could purge I'd have plenty of room !!
For me I have a lot of im gonna's
Life is short !!
I feel for you !!
I also hope I get my crap situated!!
I need to have a garage party take it all out organize and put it back plus get rid of stuff !!
It does make it hard that as a contractor I do need to store a lot of left over material and stuff !!
Good luck !
