Trying to understand options and discovered ATK’s 408 stroker short block. Looks to have decent internals Scat and such.

Anyone have any experience With these?

I considered going the same route.. I think there’s two levels of short block..I think the difference is the rod choice. They’re 5.9 magnum based and I think those are balanced internally. I ended up finding a 340 though so I went that route instead. One of them was $2999 through summit… at least earlier this year it was.

Yes. I am also considering a Blueprint.

Nope, according to the website the difference is the more expensive short block has a forged crankshaft and forged pistons.

Chrysler Short Block

Summit gives away 10% off coupons at various car events. Those discount codes are often shared on forums such as FABO.
Thats like $1000 of a 10k crate motor. I wonder if they were good for crate motors from ATK or Blueprint? Ill keep an eye out as I wrench on my 340 and 318.

Yes. Two years ago my buddy bought a BluePrint 350 Chevy engine that way. It's 10% off anything except sale items.

You could open a Summit speed card too. They often have 10 or 15% off promotions on purchases where you use their card. It may have a cap though.

Yes. I am also considering a Blueprint.

Here is the dyno sheet of the 408 that was recently delivered from Blueprint:

It came with a Blueprint air filter lid. I had to change that immediately. LOL

What do the heads have printed on them? I assume Edlebrock but can’t quite tell? Is it a modified head? Do you know who makes the lifters/rockers?

A while back a fellow in my town bought an ATK BB Chevy. I wasn't really impressed, power was not there. My distaste rose when I saw the cheap offshore rocker arms, I looked into it no further.

I bought a complete 408 engine back in 2009. Very happy with it. Still running the block/crank/rods. It’s on the stand to be freshened up for the second time. Well over 60,000 miles and thousands of passes on it over the years. During the last refresh (piston swap) the bores were straight and round. We’ll see this time.

The heads are Edelbrock modified by Blueprint Engines. I encourage you to contact their sales folks and ask the specific questions. They know their stuff! I recently installed the 408 into my 70 Duster w/727 and 8 3/4 3.55 and am thrilled by how well it runs. Actually have a traction issue now. BFG tires don't get the job done! You pay for what you get in the engine package, and their warranty is outstanding. I do not care for the Holley 750 they ship the engine with so I changed it for an AVS2 800. After I installed the Carb Cheater and tuned the carb it runs super clean and has gobs of git up and go.
