Aussie thinking about buying real estate in USA

I'm from Canada, living in Idaho. Moved to escape socialism. I feel very comfortable in Idaho. It's conservative political climate suits me.
I'd like to have less winter but the warmer places are infested with leftist Bernie supporters intent on destroying what made this country great.
We have a constant influx of fed up Californians for the reasons listed above.
Unless you have leftist leanings, avoid California.

I still love Missouri but it is not for a lot of people. When I say Mo. I leave out St. Louis, KC and even Columbia. Rural land is cheap in the Southern part taxes are very low, hunting and fishing is huge, but rural takes on another meaning there.

Minnesota to Florida Winter Retreat

Can come and go as I please. Own the Trailer on it's own double lot and chain link fenced for security when I am gone, good neighbors watching things over for me too when away.

Try to help out in the neighborhood while I am there, to make it better for all that live there, and to help so that things don't get run down.

There is no perfect senario, but this works for me and it is affordable. Was a 10 year plan trying to come up with a property in the South as a Winter Retreat. Happens to be the East Coast of Florida, below the freeze line in the state . . like that part !

There have been a unique series of events that came together as I had my eye on the 10 year plan looking for a property that would work for me. Sure enough when the opportunity came up, it was a no brainer and was time to pull the trigger and make it all happen.

I am glad I did not wait any longer to act.

@Ddaddy dropped the 69 Satellite in my Florida property for me.

1969 Satellite and 1969 Trailer Home
Period Correct, works for me . . .

Honestly politics aside Ca. Is great.

If the cost is a concern the Santa Cruz, Felton, Gilroy, Hollister, Pacifica areas are all very nice beach towns and the cost will be much lower than were you are looking.
How can you put politics aside : $3.99 a gallon for gas , no guns allowed , houses 6" apart , run by actors who know nothing and $19.95 for a grilled cheese sandwich , homeless everywhere , yuk .

right on brother

Well i live in the mountains on 6 acres. My dog runs free, my home and shop are protected by firearms.

Yes its an expensive place to live and the government sucks but i have yet to find a place that checks all the boxes that Ca dose.

That is just my opinion tho.

I had friend that had relatives that lived in Ca. He had 7 brothers, all got killed. Each a different story. Mudslide, flood, drought, brushfire, earthquake, state protected illegal criminal, his last remaining brother got killed by a lunatic left wing Dem. politician. True story!

Orange County, CA is still fairly conservative. If the state was to split to 5 different states (it almost passed by the will of the people but the state stepped in and stopped it, I guess we the people are 'too stoopid' to know the ramifications of a state split. OC down to San Diego was going to be its own Red state.

I really feel for the many conservatives that reside in a state now completely controlled by radical leftists. I know how heart wrenching it is to leave home and family behind.
The scale of the exodus speaks volumes.

Wow I never realized how goofed up the California government is until now.

Back in 2000 we were running Dune Buggy / Sand Rails out to Glamis Imperial Sand Dunes and Buttercup Valley Sand Dunes out near Yuma AZ.
The environmentalists were trying to shut down the Glamis Imperial Sand Dunes. They wanted to shut it down so no one could use it because of some stupid type milk weed they were trying to protect. I was a weed of no use to anyone or any creature just a weed.

There was this huge battle going on for years with all kinds of expensive lawers involved. Finally the People won over them and the facilities all stayed open for all to use and enjoy. Back then it was really hard to tell what the reasoning behind it all was. Now today it is crystal clear it is that it was a political move with the environmentalists at the helm trying to rule their failing power over everyone. Fail Fail . . .

It is NEVER in the news, but Pres. Trump has made strides against the idiot EPA and other various stupid laws and reg. He would have to undo many decades of stupidity. Not saying this is derail the discussion of R/E but it is all connected. Especially for natives that reside here in the US full time. Back to R/E !!

Yes thank you,
Now back to the original post. I like hearing about all the different locations to hang out during our US Winters. Interesting about the Australian climate too.

I see people retire from the North and move South, say Fl. Some find they love the year round warm and no snow, others find they miss the 4 seasons. I have surmised there is no absolute perfect place to live, just as us humans are never perfect!
My only real suggestion to the OP is travel as much f this country as possible, take the time to travel OFF the interstates, so you can see the real country, and take time to meet the locals and get a feel for the mindset of a certain area.
When you do buy keep in mind that you are not tied down to that home, buy so you can sell if you desire and not lose any $.
I agree this is a fun thread hearing from everyone scattered all over.

I currently live in Australia but my wife and I have always tossed the idea around of buying a modest property in the USA. I am sick of the Aussie harsh humid summers and it plays havoc with my health. It would be nice to escape to your winter for 3 months of the year.

The place my wife and I really liked is the West Coast of California especially a little town called Paso Robles which is east of Cambria on the coast. We went there for the day and loved the rolling green hills as we drove in and the town was really quite nice. I also like the idea of being relatively close for a drive to the beach.

Any members that live in this area that can give me pros and cons or any advice of any other towns around this area that would suit. This is only a pipe dream at the moment but we do often talk about the idea.
Pick a different state.
People are baling out of CA for reasons to numerous to list.
Very $ expensive cost of living.

I’ll bet for everyone that moves out someone moves in. Californias that nice.
Sanctuary cities are bs. Bums migrate to that climate, and always will.
If I could pull up, I’d live there. Plenty of places of incredible beauty and wide open spaces.

A friend of mine has a house out in the small Golf Cub town of Queen Valley, AZ
Out East of Phoenix and Mesa out in the foothills in a valley.

Nice place to go in the US Winter, favorable temps although you may have to run the heater on some of the cool January nights. But then the sun comes out during the days and makes it nice again.

I spent 2 Winters there, super nice retired people living there coming in from all over the country and Canada. It's like everyone there comes in from somewhere else so everyone has a lot in common with good experiecnces to share.

225,000 will get you a basic starter home there and they go up from there. A community for all with no upityness of who has what. About 45 minutes out of Phoenix.

Forgot to mention, 100°s in the Summers.

If your relocating to the USA you want to look at the health care cost here. Not cheap! And even if you can get services in rural towns. There is a wave of hospital closings and what's here this year might not be in existence next year.

The state is gorgeous no doubt.
Illegal in, fed up citizen out. By design.
Every illegal in is a vote for the idiots running the asylum.

Wrong coast!
My old Southern most, Easternmost corner of Georgia, ON THE VERY COAST itself is paradise. Zip codes: 31548, 31547, 31558

Hurricanes don’t hit that dimple into the east coast with ANY significance in recorded history.

Mid-September until as late as May typically have 55-75 degree weather (cool dips at night, around 72 degrees Fahrenheit in the day (22.2222 degrees centigrade).

It is paradise for cruising for 6 months.

No Snow. Humid when it rains. Great fishing-the rivers here are the largest breeding grounds for most Atlantic sharks.
Lots of big game fishing.

Theme parks in Florida are 3-4 hours away.
The Florida side doesn’t have state income tax I believe.

2nd week in February has a cool spell across the U.S., it might get as cold as 49 at night.

The junkyards in rural Georgia still have 1970’s Mopars (from the bumper up usually)

1/4 the COST OF LIVING than California or better. I sold a 4 bedroom house for $160,000 dollars last March. 3 bedroom homes go for around $120K and land out in the country is usually less than 5K an acre, especially once you break past 10 acres or so.

Very affordable! Unregrettable !

No it's not! He said he wants to get AWAY from hot and humid, not get right in the middle of it.

Like I say ^^^^^ I like hearing about all of the different areas and the opinions of them by the people that live there.

All I can say is, if you don't like hot and humid, the southeast AIN'T the place. If I could move to somewhere in Arizona, I'd do it.

I'd love the dryer weather of Arizona but I would really miss the green lushness of Georgia. I've been to Arizona a number of times and it is not an attractive place... unless you like tan!!!

San Diego from what I hear climate wise, has the best year round comfortable weather of any where in the nation.

The Pacific Ocean currents there has a lot to do with it, keeping it consistent.

But yeah cost of living is through the roof, etc, etc, etc . . .
