He has lifters that will oil the pushrods?

Thanks , 318 talk always stirs up a hornets nest. I guess its a tricky subject. These 596 heads are off a 79 318 cop motor so I am not sure compression will be an issue or not. I have an eddy performer 318/360 manifold as well as a brand new eddy 600. Cam is still up in the air but I know from past experience that a 284* /.484 lift purple shaft was a good choice.
I just need to turn some wrenches and I still have my 65 to cruise while I play with the 71. we shall see. Ill get the 596 heads and get them cleaned up.
I know from past experiance, that on my first car (30 some years ago) I put a set of "J" heads on a stock 318, 284 /484 purple cam, performer intake, 600 holley 3.91 gears and a 4-speed, the car was a complete dog with that cam.
Put a smaller 268 cam in it and it was night and day differance on how the car ran.
Was the intake matched with the heads? If not the intake and carb might not have been able to get the air in at the higher RPMs. The smaller cam was probably better matched to the intake and carb, not so much the heads. Did you ever get to try the smaller cam with 318 heads?
EDIT: Thinking about it, the cam would have probably shined with a proper intake and carb on the 360 heads.
I am not very familiar with the purple shaft cams.
