Lakeview, OR
I also just purchased a Hurst Promatic-2 shifter for the dart.

But my only question now is, where do I mount the shifter to make it something like a stock location ?

Seems to be two locations that would work well, first is the rear position, where the tunnel first starts to ramp upwards.

The second position is about 6-8" forward of that, where the tunnel starts to flatten out, more on top of the tunnel.

Any ideas ? Could anyone with a stock floor shifted dart take a measurement from somewhere on the dash or floor to where the shifter handle is ? Or is anyone has a pic of a floor shift car with the console off so I could see where the stock type shifter would be.

Here's pics of both possible installation spots. Both would be comfortable enough. Note: the seats are all the way to the rear right now, which is were they will be when I'm driving.

First a pic of the rear position.
and then a pic of the more forward position.

Just my opinion………

Nothing about that shifter will ever look stock.

Sit in the driver seat.

Adjust seat to your driving position.

Put the shifter in it's center position.

Move the entire shifter assembly to where it feels most natural in your hand.

Mount the shifter there.

I would do it where you have it in the first pic. The previous owner of mine put it where you have it in the second pic (maybe even forward a hair more), and it seems too far forward, especially since it's a reverse manual shift pattern. Like the others said, sit in the seat and see where it feels best.

What are those seats from?

Seats are from a 2005 Scion TC.

As far as the shifter location, I guess you guys are right. I just need to sit in the car and see what feels best.
I've been sitting in car for about 1/2hour now just playing with it. I'm starting to think the rear position would be more comfortable and less chance of banging my fist into the dash when I'm going for park.

Oh yeah, now that you mention it, my ashtray can't be open with it in P or Reverse where it's mounted. I've been thinking of moving it back.

Sit in the seat, and put it where it feels good, remember, you might get g force, and have a tendency to pull back on the handle, so move it back just a tad more.

So here's where it ended up. Its a little forward of the first pic, but still not too far forward.

So far I just mounted the shifter, haven't drilled a hole for the cable, so in the morning I'll jump in and try it again and if it still feels like its in the right spot I'll go ahead and finish up the installation.

Thanks to everyone who threw in their 2-cents.

Sorry to jump in here late, but I wanted to chime in. The method above is what I used to mount the same shifter. I sat in the seat, put the shifter in D, and then located it where it felt comfortable in my hand. We welded bolts to the floor pan so as not to drill anymore holes. Here is where mine landed. I am short and have short arms, so my seat is up further than yours.

I see you both have the twin stick option.:bootysha::bootysha::snakeman:

For now. I do have a floor shift column in the garage, but I'm *** deep in a brake conversion project right now. Eventually, I will rebuild the column and add a leather Tuff wheel.
