No response from him in my return email to him. Sad he won't man up and do the right thing. I was going by my machine shop later today but gonna have to wait until later this week. Also sent a second email to BME but still no response.

I do want to take a moment here and thank all for the support. You're a great bunch of guys and really try to make this a great website. Wish I could meet each one of you and give you a handshake. I have learned a lot with this transaction but the thing that stood out the most is all of you genuinely wanting to help and doing what you could. THANK YOU!

Here's my take. First off, I am not defending the guy in any way shape form or fashion, so don't take it like that.

Now, having said that, he never said in his ad that the rods were "ready to use". He said he had a "good set" of rods. That's a wide brush. Good to use? Good to rework as cores? Somewhere in between? Who knows?

Secondly, when doing an internet search, I can find those same rods used from about what he was advertising to around $1200. I see them new for well over 2000. More like 2500.

So the question becomes did you really expect to pay 300 bucks for a set of drop in rods that sell for 2K plus bucks new? Really? Without a machine shop even touching them?

There's no way in HADES I will ever use aluminum rods in anything. They have a life span. I can tell you this. Those rods have well over 20 HARD runs. Either that, or there was some crappy assembly.

Those are some very high end rods brand new. Like top fuel dragster high end. I do hope you get some restitution. But also at the same time, $300? Seriously?

Points taken. Like I said, I've learned a lot.

Oh and one more REAL important thing. There's a set of those rods for the big Chevy that specs out at 6.8". That's only .060" shorter than the hemi rods. Are you SURE you got Hemi rods? Have you measured the big and small ends? Those should have been questions to ask before you pulled the trigger...but that's water under the bridge now. Good luck with it. I hope he does the right thing.

Here is what I call an "honest" aluminum rod sale.

You do need to know about building high performance engines before pulling the trigger on aluminum rods, especially a used set and even more so, a cheap used set. For the price, you got what you paid for. Basically rebuildable cores. But saying that, there is a reason why race teams replace rods and throw the old ones out. Just sayin' The seller shouldn't be selling them and the buyer shouldn't have bought them if he was serious about building an aluminum rod motor.
