I finally got around to sand blasting and powder coating my wrought iron patio furniture. We've had it for about 37 years. I spray can painted them about 15 years ago with Rustoleum dark grey hammertone paint. They looked pretty good for a few years, but they were getting rather ratty looking. The chairs break down into two pieces; top and bottom. I have about 12 hours in this chair. 10 hours or blasting and 2 hours of powder coating. The chair pieces fit OK in my blasting cabinet, but they were big enough that moving them around to get to every nook and cranny took a while. Plus, every single one of the diamond shaped holes in the top part had to be completely blasted to bare metal. One chair down; 3 chairs and the table top to go. The table top will just fit in my powder coating oven. The color is Eastwood's Silver Vein with a good coat of clear on top.

dont you need an oven for that?
Yes. My PC oven is 3' wide x 3' deep x 6' high on the inside. I've been powder coating for about 20 years now. I am certainly no competition for CudaChick1968. Nor do I want to be. I just do a little here and a little there, mostly by word of mouth.

Did you build your oven? I'd like to give powder coating a whirl myself. Pics of your set-up?

I'll take some pics tomorrow. about 18-20 years ago, I bought a Northstar 80 gallon 5 HP 2 stage compressor, a TP Tools 960 Blasting cabinet, a used electric stove and an Eastwood powder coating gun. I used the electric stove for about 4 years. I could do a lot in that oven, including wheels. I use a toaster oven when I just want to do a few small parts. Then I decided to get a bigger oven. They were quite pricey. I eventually found a place called Ted's Fabrication. I paid $1600 for a 240 volt oven that has inside dimensions of 36" x 36" x 72". I chose not to pay for the window option. Big mistake. It would be handy to peak at the parts to see when the powder starts to melt. Anyway, I still have the same oven and blasting cabinet. My Northstar (from Northern Tools) compressor died about 1.5 years ago. I replaced it with a Champion compressor from TP Tools. I used 1/2" iron pipe from Lowes for air lines. Let me make a HUGE suggestion. Do not go with a cheap compressor or blasting cabinet. You will regret it. I got into powder coating thinking I would do stuff for myself and maybe make a few bucks. After a while, I got quite a few jobs just from word of mouth. If you are interested in giving it a try, PM me. We can talk.

Here are the pictures. The oven is from Ted's Fabrication in PA. 256-384-5930. It has been amazing.

My garage is a mess now. Don't look too closely. My garage is like a 10 pound bag with 15 pounds of potatoes in it. Please feel free to PM me for more information on powder coating.

Wow @harrisonm that looks great!!! Blasting expanded metal is tedious for sure but you have a lot to be proud of! Since you have some silver vein on hand, try shooting a candy on top of it ... the results can be pretty amazing.

I'll do that. I have some translucent purple. I make these lamps and then powder coat them. The base on this one is the magneto off of a lawn mower engine. The glass is power line insulators I etched in my blasting cabinets. The rest is from the plumbing department at Lowes. This one is in KU colors. I use small LED bulbs. They look really nice when lit. The next time I do a K State one (white and purple). The translucent purple might be perfect. Thanks..
