Bringing the 66 back to life

-
WOW! Another '66 brought back to life, great job so far, keep up the good work.

I like the color combo, keep the pic's coming.

I bought a set of fenders from the S.F. Bay area sight unseen, had them shipped by Greyhound. When I picked them up they looked pretty good, after I had them blasted I was not to happy. Found that they were full of mud and had been so called repaired, what a hack job. We spent a lot of time and a lot of welding on these fenders, yes they were rust free alright but what a mess. After all the work though they came out really nice. Here are some pictures of what I found under the mud and then checking the fit before we did the finish work on the fenders.

Don't know why but I do not have any of the pictures of the finished body work on the fenders, just this one of Terry cutting the fender in before I put it back on the car. Any way the fenders came out real nice.

This was the day I loaded it up and took the car up to the shop to start the body work, nothing but a shell and four wheels.

Here are a few Pictures of me and the gang working on the roof. I'm in the first four and thats Mike up on the roof in the last two and the other guy is Pon he was trying to get out of the picture, not fast enough.

Both doors had some rust on the lower lip and in the inside corners, the outside skins were not in bad shape at all no major dents or rust. You can see that we cut off the lower lip and welded in some new ones, and fabricated some new corners then we sealed up both doors. Heres a picture of the finished product, I was quite happy with the way they came out.

The out side of the hood was not in that bad of shape but the holes where the hood pad clips went were all rusted out, so we cut out all the bad holes and replaced the metal then drilled new holes. Then just for the hell of it we tried out a hood scoop, looked pretty good don't ya think?

Spent most of the day working on the CUDA. Put both doors together, installed the new cat wiskers, and put on the inside and outside stainless. Also put on the fender emblems and the hood and decklid letters, after I repainted the black.

Thanks for all the positive comments everybody and Uli thats some great work that you did on yours. Anyhow next was the floor pans, as you can see they were pretty soft the guys thought I should leave them cut out this way kinda like the Flintstone mobile. I decided not to and to weld them up, thats me grinding down the welds.

Today was CUDA day, thats all I did today was play with my toy. Had a date with the headliner today and after about 3 hours we were done. Came out pretty good no wrinkles no rips.

That headliner looks great, I've been a little apprehensive about doing mine, where do you start from? Front or sides?

I had a guy who knew what he was doing come over and do mine. First thing he did was put all the bows in place up in the roof starting with the center then working towards the back then he worked towards the front. Then he connected the two back wires said thats what spaces everything out. He then started from the right front gluing and using the hair dryer all the time and worked all the way down the side to the back then he did the right side sail panel, then half way around the right side back window area, then he went to the left front and worked down the side to the back, then the left side sail panel and finished the back window area, then up front around the windshield area. The very first thing he did before we even went outside was to put the new headliner in the dryer on high for 5 minutes then he took it outside and instaled the bows.

The spare tire well had the swiss cheese look down on the bottom, so it had to come out. Earlier in this thread if you look at the pictures of us goofing around with the hood scoop you will see the doner trunk pan leaning up against the wall to the right. Here are the step by step pictures of this job and some before and after shots.
