I ran a 440 with 12.5 -1 trw pistons, stock rod or go with aftermarket h-beam rods, stock forged steel crank, mp 312-590 cam and a set of unported 915 heads! The car ran a best of 11.36, I then upgraded the heads to 63 max wedge heads off a 413, added nothing else and ran a best of 10.89! That is a proven comb. that I have ran! Pm me if you want more info on it or other combs I've ran! As far as trans goes have someone go thru it or contact cope racing, the rearend go with 8 3/4 with 4.56 aftermarket axles and if its not a street car run a spool! Hope this helps! :thumblef:

I remember seeing an article in Mopar Muscle building a 440 with the Edelbrock heads strait out of the box. I can probably dig up the specifics if you like but they used a reasonably mild comp cam, the typical mods.. headers, intake ect and it made like 530-550 hp, and it was on pump gas and a pretty mild combo. That kind of power should get you in the 11s easy with the 4.56s.. or you could loose a bit off the line and run more streetable 3.23s or 3.55s and probably still run low 12s or maybe high 11s.

Id go like this. Stock forged crank, 440Source 6.76 rods, Diamond flat top pistons, .990 pin, Speed Pro file-to-fit rings, main studs, stock oiling system. Square deck for zero deck, align bore/hone, bore and tq plate hone, deburr, competitioin balance. Heads and top end, Edelbrock RPM 84 cc, gasket match, bowl clean up/valve job fix, replace springs to match cam, MP M1 single plane intake port matched and "tweaked". Can would be a Comp solid, around a XS282S, but use 1.6 rockers. Ignition of your choice, A Holley 4150 HP 950 cfm or similar. It will exceed that 550 number.

My 70 charger has a stock 440 bottom end with about 9.0 compression, ported 906's
w/ 2.14-1.88 valves (MP port templates) , crower .550 roller, headers and a sixpac.
It ran 12.30@ 111 in Seattle with 3.55's and it wieghs 4000lbs with driver.
You dont have to go wild ($) to get a 440 to make horsies, just use a combo that
works well together and tune it right.

Now I must add that I did not build or tune my motor, it was built by a buddy of mine
that is a freaken genius with mopars.

If Dave571 sees this maybe he will give you his combo. I'd say he is right @ the 550 and used mainly mopar stuff except for the cam, intake and RRs. Puts a 3900lb B body in the 11s and still runs on the street.

How many boards is this thread on...LOL

I did reply to it on Moparts

As Running 11.9s:

30 over 440
steel crank
10.6:1 comp, (pump gas)
"six pack" speed pro slugs .017 below deck
915 iron heads stock valve size (stainless manleys) mild blend/port work
eddy rpm performer intake
mighty demon 750
swapmeet hooker headers
racerbrown 1.6/1.5 combo rockers
Racer brown 242@50 510 lift
3500 stall
410 gears 28" slicks
Holley blue pump, etc

I shift at 6K and the she shift light is just on when I hit the stripe.

I ran 12.4's with the only difference being I was using open 452 castings with stock rockers(would have made compression only 9.7 or so). That should have been close to 500 with the weight of this pig....LOL

No magic required to make good power witha 440, BUT it does need to be MATCHED.

Hope this helps!
