I bought a 383 and 727 last night. and need to know what i have?

Block - 2468130-9 Date code 8-15-67

Heads- 2844906-7 and 2843906-2

intake 29516661

Would this have a steel crank and the good rods in it?

I believe all 383's had a steel crank

Part number on block is 1959-71 383

Intake looks to be a 70-71 4bbl 383 from the part number 2951666

All 383s did NOT have forged cranks, but this one left the factory with one. It's a 1968 model-year motor with the correct 906 heads.

Thank you very much guys, sounds like i scored on this one. What about rods? Were the so called six pack rods the better rod?

depends on who you ask. heavier thicker rods = more rotating mass but beefy
the standard LY rods are damn good rods that are less mass and were used for damn near if not all years of 440's
six pack rods were only used on RB engines
not sure on the 340 six pack engines

Going to knock it apart this afternoon, still tryin to decide on 906 heads or Eddy heads?

I beleive only 1971 383's (last year of the 383's) had the cast cranks
452 heads are the heads with induction hardened exhaust seats for unleaded fuel however your machine shop should be able to cut and insert hardened seats in your 906's

Knocked the 383 apart today at ABS, someone tried to hotrod this old girl. Has 12-1 compression pistons in it. Steel crank new rings and bearings. 906 heads and a std bore block. will build a 426 wedge with Eddy aluminum heads, will hang onto all the other parts for now.
