Centerlink grinding on 440 oil pan

-
Looks like the link clears the pan perfectly !
That’s a good looking setup,,,,did you have to notch the K frame any to clear the pan ?

Tommy

i bought the same pan from 440 source 71 dart with 74 k frame and the idle arm just hits the side of pan when steering wheel is turned all the way 2 right with 440 engine 727 tranny.

Yup, best route looks like changing the pan to 893, but man that’s going to be such a pain in the *** with the motor in the car!!!
I just changed my pan 2 weeks or so ago. Thank God for a front engine plate. Undo the brake lines, upper ball joints, torsion bars and K member bolts, drop it down and slide out of the way. Motor and trans stay in, coolant, wiring etc! I did the Boregeson ujoint swap right away too, got rid of that damn steering coupler. Night and day difference.

The problem is that it is a 6 quart pan, the factory 893 pan is 5 quart and the indentation is different as shown in the picture earlier. I had Vans Auto reproduce the 893 pan off an NOS one I had. You can always crank up the torsion bars...LOL..

If I just HAD to mod something, I'd drain the oil and take a torch and heat and massage the pan with a medium size ball peen until I had clearance. But I swear man, Your mounts just look WRONG somehow.

Ya good point on 5 vs 6. I’ve seen Mancini/440 source both have reproduction 893 pans. I need to see if my pickup and windage would fit.

I probably will. Worst case is I screw it up and have to get the 893 pan.

I’d rather take a hammer to the pan at this point. I’m nervous that rub spot is already thin though. May just give it a go
I put a 289 in a 63 Econoline van. The engine cross member that you could buy was not welded so you could move the engine forward or rearward by several inches.

Over several years the tierod wore a hole into the oil pan. ( I mounted it just an inch too far forward)

Missed it by that much!

I had a windage tray in my 69 GTS 383 in 1979, they fit fine but the 893 pan is baffled to I don't know how much it helps. It takes the "S" shaped pickup, not the angled one...

This one?

I have a QA1 k member with 440 Source LA to RB conversion mounts, a 66-69 hemi oil pan and 73-up steering linkage. Everything clears withno issues. The oem 1968 steering linkage hit the old pan and TTI step headers.

The cantilevered mount does look goofy, I’m fairly certain I installed them correctly.

Did this ever get resolved? and how?
This must be some kind of A body secret that noone will post the answer to.lol
I've read about 10 threads on this and none have a conclusion.

Conclusion is… im going to hit it with a big ole hammer this weekend. If it starts leaking I’ll order the 893 pan which looks like it will definitely work.

Aggravating though that I thought I had researched this and ordered a pan specific for a 440 in an A Body and then gotta deal with this BS.

Just an observation, nothing to do with your pan project.
Ditch the cheap worm clamps on the fuel lines (braided lines are not expensive) and use F.I. type instead.
Will not pinch the hoses or come loose like the small worm clamps in the picture. JMO

I just ordered another 893 and pickup as well, if you don't get yours fixed before I do I'll let you know how it fit.
Mine is a 73 with RB conversion from slant 6 spool mounts which is slightly different.
