Is there any specific paint to repaint the console with. Also, what do you use to sand it down since the surface isn't smooth? Thank you, Your help and experience is appreciated.

I thought about using a mild paint remover and some prepall to clean it. But I'm not sure if there's a mopar paint that was used to paint it. Or if it's a aftermarket paint. In for the same questions. Mine has some deep scratches. I've considered sanding it smooth and possibly using a textured paint.
I had thought the same thing , like you said..it's a textured surface and a plastic paint might work.Eastwood Plastic Resurfacer Matte Black Aerosol
I was thinking of trying this on mine. With the pre paint prep since the console is textured.
That could be a possibility, but might be a little costly something goes wrong and you mess up your console....just a shot in the dark, but perhaps some sort of media blasting, very light psi and the right media may do it. idk.
I didn't know it was fiberglass, I thought it was like a pot metal or something light. That info was helpful. Thank you. Does anyone use a certain paint to repaint with? The console is fiberglass and quite rugged accept in a few areas. I've cut and filled on mine because I have a larger tunnel for a TKO so I had to shave the nose to get it back to the stock location and be parallel to the floor. Mine has some deep scratches and broken corners, probably from being stored poorly by previous owners. I'll epoxy the broken parts. Light abrasive blast might work to keep the texture and strip a layer of finish. I have a small blaster/compressor and some walnut shells, might give it a try.
You talking about the console body or the top plates?I didn't know it was fiberglass, I thought it was like a pot metal or something light. That info was helpful. Thank you. Does anyone use a certain paint to repaint with?
Console bodyYou talking about the console body or the top plates?
The shoe polish didn't rub off on anything?I used black shoe polish. Sit in sun. I didnt fix any Nick's though.

Cool, I would've never thought of that..theres another option to consider. Thank youNope, I didnt use lots, also the liquid stuff not the paste. Works like a dye I guess. Buddy of mine told me about it.

Thank you Redfish, where do I find the Sems Landau black paint at?I'll have to start at the beginning... my 67 buckets have steel backs with vinyl skin glued on them. Wrong kind of glossy spray paint with runs, Pretty bad scars and small dents to hammer out too. Lacquer thinner and a lot of rubbing removed the paint mess. In some spots I had to razor away loose vinyl. I filled the voids with gel type super glue. After it had a few minutes to cure a bit I pounced it with a piece of fine scotch brite pad and allowed it to cure fully. Very light sanding knocked down peeks and edges. Vinyl thickness with grain recreated. Shot with Sems Landau Black and done.
My console wasn't scared so bad but had a rear corner broken out/missing. Built a form or fence with duct tape. built the missing corner with Devon 2 part epoxy. Pulled the tape and sanded to shape. Same pounce in super glue recreated the grain on that too.
The correct vey low gloss / nearly flat dye finish doesn't amplify imperfection like glossy will. I wont claim invisible repairs at every spot but one would need to look closely to find them all.
Thank you for the link and the information Redfish, that's exactly what I was looking for.One of my local paint store carries SEM products. It does cost more than some other brands found in part stores, Walmart, etc... Sems Landau black is nearly exact match to our Chrysler black. Only kind I've ever used.
