Generally, the old are viewed as a burden on society and resources. They usually get to finish up life in a strange place among strangers without much freedom.

Damn man. Why do you have to be so realistic? Just kidding. I live my life that way. Yes, sometimes it is sad to realize everything you work for is pointless in the end. Hopefully our children love us enough to support us through whatever may come our way.

It's in my face daily since my wife works in an 'old folks home'. lol
But it's just the way it is with old people living longer and young people having to work for a living. The love is still there I think.
It's not pointless if you remember the journey is what counts not the destination. Every decision you make counts, no matter how small.

I agree life is a lot different than many decades ago. I am 70 decades old plus 2 years so I relate.
Used to be... Dad made the living, mom was home and raised kids. Many times elderly grandparents were in the same home as the rest of the family. There was someone home to care for the elderly.
More rural people. The family farm was passed down. The grandparents had a place, after all they gave the farm to that child.
Life was slower.People had the time to think.
I was raised by parents that were the Greatest Generation. I see a vast difference in how I was raised verse today in general.
Anyone ever watch the TV show "The Waltons" ??

Watched it as a kid. I was too young to realize how fine Michael Learned was at the time. Now she looks like the joker's sister.

China's numbers are a lie. Watched a video where their crematories are running non stop 24 hrs. a day. I bet when it's all said & done they will have 250,000 deaths from COVID-19. Cannot believe a communist country !

Where is that youtube of the elderly gentleman playin' the piano and singin the Stay at Home anthem hiding?

Comparable

It was fun while it lasted. :BangHead:

Some (just some) of the younger crowd calls this Covid 19 "Boomer Reducer". What does that tell you?
I look at it this way. I'm glad there is no digital record of all the stupid things I said in my teens and 20s. Anyone who said that will certainly eat those words once family, friends, and their 'nice old neighbors' start to die. When it hits home, they'll regret ever saying that. Over the past few years we have become so jaded and divided as a society. My only hope is that once this is all over, we can start to really focus on the issues instead of classifying people into these absurd groupings. Been an independent forever and on some issues I would be considered a conservative on some a liberal on some a socialist. But I don't self identify as any of those things. Hopefully this is a wake up all for us all to value what really matters.

You described me to the tee.
I bet you're in your 50's. I'm 58.
Grew up during a great era, I've seen a lot.

Saw an interesting stat the other day that said a third of covid cases in my county are tied to church gatherings. Hmmm... Maybe it's god's plan? LOL

Not the only ones, but probably the best example.
Seems the Chinese are ordering hundreds of thousands of body bags.
Post 1 dashboard link appears pretty accurate. Even if you are capable of running exponential equations, don't, you'll just scare yourself.

Cool.
Was watching Pawn Stars, pretty interesting. You know all this but....flamethrowers are considered farm equipment. They used a Vietnam era flamethrower, I guess they are safer? And the WW2 are $$$. Seems like you could do your own mix too, since they said napalm is gas/diesel/thickening agent. They didn't specify what that agent was.
Palm oil. Napalm is naptha and palm oil is my understanding, thus the name.

More or less. Scientifically speaking it's original formula was: "co-precipitated aluminium salts of naphthenic acid and palmitic acid".

Greenland has 6 cases. Madagascar looks good. We just had our first death in NM.

"NMDOH reports a male in his late 70s from Eddy County was transported to Artesia General Hospital on Sunday, March 22 and died that same day. The man’s condition is said to have deteriorated rapidly."

495 cases now it sounds like.

543 cases, 11 dead
2 retirement home outbreaks. They issued my wife a mask 2 days ago, she gets one every 5 days. Wearing makeup trashes a mask quickly she said.

It spreads like wildfire. We are nearing 4000 cases with over 100 dead in less than a month

I plan on getting it. Quarantine is worthless since my wife is in and out of the house five days a week. It's causing me a lot of anxiety.

Same boat I'm in. I feel like disappearing but virus or not, I won't abandon her.
Exactly. I got a friend with a spare bedroom in a county with no cases and little population. On 10 acres. He has a huge pantry I could stock and a private well.
I guess I'll find out how tough I really am. 61, chronic disease, and type A blood. I am still a lad - in my mind.

If I moved out temporarily, I'd regret it for the rest of life, so why bother.

I'd regret it for the rest of life
I have a fully furnished condo in Las Vegas I run away to all the time. I would be safe there. My ER nurse wife has two months left on this contract. I'm 64. If all goes well we will have time to take a serious break. A-.
