Cylinder bore is scratched up!

I don’t mean any disrespect
None taken at all, there are plenty of agro dirt balls around here. You can’t drive on a highway for more than 30 seconds without an encounter.

I also expected perfection for 800, since they are available all over for 300.

I had to call back. Brandon the owner is not in the country, for an unknown amount of time apparently.
I call BULLSHIT!!!!

And if Brandon is out of the country, who told Mike that he was now in charge of this situation?

You’re getting phuqued over, plain and simple.

Hate to say it, but there is usually a good reason a person pulls out a "Perfectly Good Running" engine.

Maybe because it was not running perfectly good, and it was loosing coolant > so they pulled it out.

The way the guy dumped off the engine, says a lot about that whole operation.

They will take responsibility whether they like it or not.
But yeah, with a facility that large, the boss doesn’t just “leave on business” for an unknown amount of time, and leave no way to contact him.

Update:
Okay ya’ll, they offered me $600 back on the $800. I keep the parts/block.

I’m not sure if cam or crank/bearings are damaged from the acid water, and if using them on another block is okay? …like would there be other internal damage on the parts I don’t see from the water sitting?

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

Thank you for reading along and helping me figure this out everyone.

Take the deal, if you get to keep the parts. You'll be money ahead parting it out if you wanted to, or fix it and run it.

Could you have bought a different core motor for $200 that didn’t need a sleeve?

As much as I say to fight for the $800, I would take the $600. You keep everything?
Yup. More work, but I should be able to offset the 200 difference with the parts. The yards around here sell them for $400-1200.

i'll echo those upthread. take the 6 and call it a push.

filed to: lessons lernt an' all that.
Indeed. I was ready to trailer it all back for the 800, but driving without a trailer to get 600 and keep the parts is comparable and easier.
I definitely wanted to hear back from the crew here on fairness and usability of the remaining parts.

Time is money. How are they going to pay you. Have them paypal friends and Family it to you and move it right away. Get that in text form as well. Send a text to the owner.

"Wanted to confirm, per our conversation, that you'll send me $600 as compensation for the damaged engine bought from (shop name). Please reply affirmatively. Thanks"

Include your payment address as well.
Or something to that effect.

That way you have it in writing if they don't follow through

Use the refund to get the bores fixed up or buy a different core and sell off the stuff.

No chance anyone was driving that and it was fine with that level of damage. It would look like a carpet steam cleaner gone wild driving down the street.

@abodyjoe is one of the best guys on this site if you need a 360 and he has a few.

i think that's the smart call.

you won't know what you've got until you do a comprehensive tear down. so start there.

personally, i don't think i'd sleeve a magnum block because there's SO many out there kicking around that it doesn't make sense money wise to me.

it's a different story if you have one hole go bad on a motor that's got time, effort and dough into a build (read: aftermarket pistons, or a stroker), but on a stocker you're money ahead finding another to play with.

 Steam engines went out a while back.

I just started a paypal, I’ll look into that.

Joe is already trying to help me out and he is not too far.

I added some to the post...

We all learn from things, here is something to consider in the future.
Don't know how it was listed for sale. If someone tells me "it runs perfect", they get to prove it. Otherwise it's just a core.

Bummer about the journey. Lots of good people here willing to help.

Yeah. I'm sayin that's a good offer. I'd take it. BUT my caveat is you take the block to the machine shop FIRST to make DAMN SURE it is repairable and doesn't have something else detrimental. Once they confirm that, then go for the 600.

I will just start with another block. Abody Joe has one, bored over with pistons, but I’m trying to figure out what else it needs and if the magnum steamer parts will fit whatever is missing.

The steamer. lol

To echo everyone else: Take the $600. You've got more than $200 in parts there, plus the scrap value of the iron, which is probably about $50, unless prices have dropped.

But none of this PayPal bullsh|t. You want cash. You're in NJ, not bloody Palo Alto. I'm sure you paid them cash, that's what you want back. You don't want to discover how many new ways they may have devised to claw money back from those services.

Great to hear they seem to be fixing this.

I wouldn't have hard feelings toward them now. I think they've offered you a good resolution.
