also figured out how im going to tie the front end together, tabs are also going to be welded on and a k shape strut bar that can be bolted in and removed fabricated, to give additional side to side strenght since this car will see autocross duties

Dodge29

looking for tire size, if I only mini tub my 65, what is the biggest tire i can get under it without rubbing, looking at going 17 or 18", if i measure from the inside of the inner fender to the frame, measures 14 1/8, what i'm concern about is lowing the car slightly, intend to lower approx 2 inches
suggestion???
Dodge29

been a while, busy at work, havent had much time to do anything, here some current pics

IMG_0348.jpg

by the way, have a bunch of roll cage yet to add, but decide to wait till i get the mini tubs in and a few more things done inside before i make it a real pain to climb in and out

front alterktion k member has been fitted and almost ready to go for powdercoating, rear cross bar as also been intalled and welded in, relocation buckets are in, some welding to finish, both tubs cut out and ready to be reinstalled, really struggling with the floor where it meets the frame rail

IMG_0352.jpg

IMG_0353.jpg

my shop looks like the inside of a coal mine, at least 1/4 inch of nasty undercoating everywhere, had to change my filters already in my good respirator, what a nightmare that crap is.....

IMG_0351.jpg

IMG_0350.jpg

is all the early a's have that much undercoating on them???

first day i grinded that stuff off, forgot the respirator in the house, I must of spitted black goo for 2 days....yuck

I only cut the bottom and the inside portion of the frame rail and then rosebud welded the inside frame rail, also welded the edge all around, there is a small area about 2 inches long that will not or cannot be welded on both sides, no room between floor and the relocation bucket.....

IMG_0354.jpg

with the minitubs, will have approx 15 inches of tire room, with lowering the car 1.5 inches, should be able to fit 275-40r18 in rear and 235 or 245-45r17 in front, using 7.25 back spacing, my rear axle needs to be 58 inches from outside to outside of flange, was worried about the spare new axle i had in stock, thought for a bit that i was going to have to go smaller than 58 inches, but figured out my tire combination.....
Dodge29

ps, might even try to sneak 285's in the rear

by the way the hood scoop is off a Dodge Ram 1500.....will be a functioning ram air set up
Dodge29

I cant wait to see this baby done. It looks so badass. And you are murdering out progress

Man. I still wish I could have my name on the side of a toolbox. Lol.

WoW your really going to town with your progress! Thanks for sharing the pics, you gave me some ideas for the bars upfront underhood from the firewall.Your doing great in such a short time, keep up the great work.8)

there will be a k bar across the top of the engine compartment, sort like the one on my daughter Mustang GT convertible, strut bar
going to weld a channel from the forward bar down to the top of the old shock mounting bolt area, at the top a strut bar will be bolted in, when i finish building it, will post some pics
Dodge29
ps thanks for the kind words

Wow your schooling me on the roll cage, lol!! Looks very strong .

been upside down 4 times in my racing career, 3 times in stock cars, one very violent Rusty Wallace kind of flip, in open wheel modifieds, the car was standing up on end approx 20 feet off the ground, hit so hard tore the mounts out of the block, rip the side of a small blk engine right off.....

however the first flip I ever took was in a drag car, top end of the track, at 148mph, the driveshaft came apart and I roll a Vega end over end over the guard rails, dont remeber much of that one, woke up in the ambulance, strapped to a board on my way to the hospital.....

I've learn not to gamble on poor equipment or poorly built roll cages, the key to a roll cage is triangulation....

this is a street car, and it will be race, mostly autocross but may see ablast around a road course or two...this will be at least and 14 point cage when its done

thanks

by the way the hits I have taken, are starting to come back to hunt me, there isnt a day that goes by that my knees dont hurt, and do not dare to ever sleep on my stomach with my head buried in the pillow, wont be able to turn my head for two days....lol

at 17, my daughter has been upside down twice, one quite violent in open kart class, she end over ended a dirt kart at 60mph+,

momma still hasnt forgiven me for that one

if everything comes together as planned, and as advised by some experts
at quicktimeinc.com and Hurst Driveline....

the tr6060 6 speed tremec, will bolt up to any small block Dodge, la or magnum, any stock or performance 130 tooth flywheel for la or magnum will work, however you need to make sure internally or externally balance depending on your application
must use a 6.1L Challenger manual transmission starter
also 11 inch clutch will be the largest possible, it our case will go dual disc since we will be above 550hps.....
the rear of the crank may have to be machined, in our case we are getting a custom crank, so that issue will be taken care of at that time
the slave cylinder will have to reworked, modifying ours to 4an fittings and will plumb using customed made line, not a big deal

hedders will be an issue, like we dont already know that for an early a,
going to tti's, uncoated, since we are going to have to modfied the hedders, once all mods have been made, will have them coated, the issue is the right side, will have to clear the starter, since no torsion bar, lots of room to the outside,

quicktimeinc.com has a killer scattershield, a little pricey, 590.01, mine is ordered, my brand new tremec is ordered, need to be able to mock up to modify the floor, cant do that without a bolted up transmission.....

by the way, if you ever think of using a stock bellhousing for anything but a stock street car your a fool, i saw more than one exploded clutch/ flywheels in my days, fortunatelly not mine, nothing more dangerous than a stock bellhousing

so far, cost of project
1000.00 for the car
950.00 to ship from CA to NC
4300 front suspension
1850 rear suspension
590.01 scattershield
2350.00 tr6060 tremec,
approx 500.00 in misc stuff, tubing etc

that does not include, stuff i have, like a brand new 9 inch Ford grand national rear, lots of center sections, a gold track spool assembly, Wildwood 3cylinder reverse pedal, etc

Dodge29

the Tremec is home and so is my new scattershield, time to mock up, cut out the floor and build a tunnel,
