I All, Finally found where my 53005714 heads came from. They come from a 1991 318 truck according to the NHRA spec sheet.
What is the difference from the '302' heads also offered in '91? Also, anyone know what cc these may be? They are closed chambered heart shaped.

Thanks in advance

Never heard of them. Casting #'s are generally only 7 digits where-as part #'s are 8 digits. Are you sure 53005714 isn't the part #? Are you seeing that # on the head itself or the boxes they came in?

They are LA heads, right? Not magnum heads?

There were more than one casting number suffix sets that I am aware of for the swirl port, closed chamber heads. I'm not sure what the differences are, but they may likely just be another run of the '302 suffix. If there are any differences at all, it could be machine tolerances or casting differences in odd areas, but I'm almost certain that they are the same combustion chamber.

Absolutely the only numbers on the heads. They are indeed LA heads. There is an A next to the number 2 spark plug hole. Probably (hopefully) not too different than the '302' heads. Also, seems they are rated at 57.2cc's and 9.9 cr? There was someone selling a set here atFABO sometime ago according to Google......

Wao!

That's a tighter chamber than a '302

Sounds cool.

714 heads ARE 302 heads. I have a set. The only difference i could see between them and 302s are that they have beefier, nail head exhaust valves, valve rotators on the exhaust, and are actually HEAVIER than the 302s. I didnt put them on a scale, but its easy to feel the difference. I think that they are just a heavier duty casting designed to handle truck duty (these came off a '91 318 from a truck).

Port these babys out, do a good "competition" valve job with the stock valves, and do a .050 cut on the surface, and you got yourself a fine set of 318 heads that may surprise you!

You guys are awesome! Thanks for all the replies to this. Nice to know these are similar to the 302 heads. Porting these will need to wait for the next time!

Thanks, Craig!
