........were two black and tan small beagles and they were brothers from the same litter but didn't look nothing alike. I guess you could say they weren't identical. They were both about 12" tall but Tuffy was of a more stocky build while Little Bit was sort of slinder on the build. A couple of real rabbit burners. Not much into junk dogs but for some reason all dogs i've had always tried to please me in all they did. I guess it helps when you roll in the grass with em and scratch em when it feels best. The thing i remember most about the two beagles is on a cold and icey winter day my brother and i were rabbit hunting on the edge of a little town where we lived named Koshkonong, Missouri, and there was a small lake off the edge of the highway. Little Bit was jumping around in a frisky manner at the edge of the lake the headed out onto the ice which got thinner the further out he went. Then it happened. He went through the ice. I called to him as long as i felt he was making headway but then i realized this wasn't going to work. My brother was standing beside me calling also. I handed him my gun and took off my coat and in i went breaking ice with my elbos as i went. I made it to him but he was exhausted and cold as a wedge. I got back to the bank and got on my coat and stuffed Little Bit inside and you can bet my pant legs were a sheet of ice very soon. Just so happens there was a very small resturant up on the highway about 500 yards to the west so here we went. Got to the door only to be greeted by a not so kind waitress who quickly told us as we were headed in the door that we couldn't bring no dogs or guns inside. I was about 14 or so but i informed her in no uncertain terms that i would leave the guns out side with the other two dogs but i was bringing the one dog in and in we went. We sat in a booth and drank hot chocolate for about 30 minutes till the dog was ok and then we were on our way. We went home to get on some dry clothes. If i'll do that for a dog, think what i will do for a child, even if it isn't mine. I think the next dogs i'll bring to you attention will be Spec and Porky. Two English pointer bitches......They were tops.
