Good Afternoon FABO,

Just got ahold of a donor 440 out of an old RV and stripped it down to the block. After doing some inspection, I noticed there seemed to be some breakage in the block near the lifter cylinders (sorry if thats not proper terminology, still learning). I was curious if anyone has any experience with this, and whether that is something to be concerned about. Pictures attached, thanks in advance for any advice.

Indeed, plus you get better oil flow back to the pan if you remove the flash on all the openings...

Pick 3 seems the cam journal has a hairline crack on top center?
Have a machine shop clean that block and test for cracks

Pretty normal for all manufacturers to have that casting flash.
If you are handy with a carbide burr and a grinder the cleans up easily.
By the way I think I have a litter mate block, same casting date lol
