Were they painted body color, galv,cad,zinc ? any one care to weigh in? mine were black, but it took a paint job in the late 70's and I am sure they got hit.

They got shot at with body color. As the body painting was done the exposed portions of the hindges got painted. They didn't put any effort into swinging the hindges to differnt positions to completely cover them. There may or may not be a light smear of so sort of body sealant between the hindge and mating surfaces. What wasn't painted stayed raw.

So right RedFish! They were added to the post when they natural and had no primer. AFter that the door was added and then they adjusted the door to perfection. After dipping the car two times in primer it was time for the top coat. So the hinges were primered and then top coated. Was wasn't covered with the top coat was left in primer.

The plastic roller in the hinge was even greased before paint so sometimes you can find evidence of grease with paint on!
