Electric ain't got squat to do with this one. Edelbrock RELOCATED to Memphis Tennessee, after buying out Comp Cams and all of their affiliates. The only thing staying in Californika is the Edelbrock foundry, because the EPA will not allow them to build a new one.
This is 100% correct, I have friends who work at the Torrance location and this move has been planned for a LONG time to cut costs. They don't seem too upset about it though, seems like they had like a 1-2 year notice so that they could consider getting new jobs or following the company over. They all agree that the current owners are assholes and the company is slowly going down the drain from the inside out.Electric ain't got squat to do with this one. High tax state vs. low tax state. A business has to survive. Consolidation of companies owned under one umbrella. Happens all the time. 65'
I wasn't aware that Edlebrock had new owners. Is it in the family at all anymore? This is 100% correct, I have friends who work at the Torrance location and this move has been planned for a LONG time to cut costs. IIRC, this is the second owner since family sold it.
The family wasn’t that great. Everything was paid for so that masked some things. But near the end, Vic was hemorrhaging money on and making unprofessional moves.
The kids couldn’t do it. Too many issues.
Yup, Vic really had the head for business. Cammie and Christy.....well.......
i heard from a executive that Vic didn’t either. Was an owner that wanted to hear he wanted to hear. Emporer wearing no clothes catches up to you.
kids had issues that fell from the family tree
It won’t be long before they too cave, or are compelled more likely, to have castings done overseas (China) , sent here in raw form at first for machining, but ultimately then being done in China, and the only thing Edelbrock can claim is “designed and engineered in the USA” just like most everything else these days
I think they are already. I don't give a **** what they say. I've suspected it for years.
they owned and still own a foundry. They cast and make stuff for other companies too. I’ve been on a tour there and saw Ford Motorsport there being machined.
You don’t own a foundry for no reason. It’s hard to move a foundry and if you read the article, that’s staying in CA. That’s a unique asset that could cast parts for the other brands the conglomerate owns.
and how many years have we been looking for a better head?
It isn't just taxes. Caustic relationships with local and state officials also.High tax state vs. low tax state. A business has to survive. Consolidation of companies owned under one umbrella. Happens all the time. 65'
The big push to go electric will kill our hobby off and all the vendors who support it.
And with the passing of the minimum wage increase phasing in. It will only get worse.
