Im almost ready to throw some paint on the 73 340. Im just using some mopar rattlecan blue. My question is should I spray it with some 2K epoxy primer first or just go with the spray can on bare iron?
My block has original paint on it but is grease free. Heads are bare iron, glass beaded.
Another odd thought. Would 2K clear coat hold up on an engine?

I used epoxy then piss can blue on my 400, 440 was POR 15 only no primer

if you can put some indirect heat on the paint, it will harden/cure the paint significantly. Then it will be more resistant to fingerprints, spilled gasoline, etc. between now and the final install

I always prime before I paint the engine...

My brother did body work for 12 years and told me to use primer... It helps the paint stick better...

The mopar rattle can paint is very nice and goes on thick... It may take a while to fully set up, but once it hardens it's great...

Ok, I googled the hell out of this and it appears that many people are using epoxy on engines. Im going to give it a shot. Thank you for all the input.

What's the durability of POR engine paint?

Experiences VS rattle can?

POR 15 more than likely is higher solids paint. Which makes it superior to rattle can paint. However, some rattle can paint is good too. Aervoe and Seymour brand engine paints are some of the better rattle can spray paints. I have also had good luck with mopar rattle paints.
