I had no idea this nonsense was getting to be so popular. Some of the "new" and "enviromentally safe" refrigerants are flammable under "certain conditions" and one of them, R600a, (isobutane), is, well, a bit more than just flammable. These posts came from another board

mannn.... i'll bet the guy washing dishes had a real code brown moment!
 
Back in the 90's my dad brought home a bottle of R12 replacement that was explosive. It had the same oderant that propane has so you can smell it. I dont think that stuff was used very long because it was causing explosions in accidents. I ran it in my vehicle and it did seem to cool just as well as R12.
 
There is unapproved R12 replacements that are mostly LPG. This R600 is isobutane
 
1234 yf is slightly flammible, about 10% propane. Anyone with a 2016 or newer domestic car likely has some.
