externally balanced torque converter with internally balanced engine

alright so I have a 70 340 that is internally balanced. I'm working on an engine swap and I find out my new torque converter won't work because it is for a 904 non-lockup and I need a lockup torque converter which I can't find at all. let alone with the correct stall speed 10 inch pattern I need.
my question is, is there anyway I can use an externally balanced torque converter with an internally balanced engine. the old torque converter that came with the transmission that actually fits is externally balanced. is it as simple as getting the weights off of the torque converter?

by the way, part of the issue is the new torque converter is a 27 spline and the old one for the lockup I assume is a 26 spline.

Yes, you can just remove the mass. But you have to make sure your using the correct spline and crankshaft register diameter. 65'

Lock up isnt same spline count as late non lock up. Pre 68 iirr is the diff between 18 and 27

Lock up are 26 spline

Yea i have both the only difference I see is the lockup has like a half spline shaft.

well the old torque converter is able to fit on the transmission but the new one we are not able to get it on all of the way. are you sure they are the same?

Correct, smooth at the end of the input.. and that's how you tell one.

Are you trying to put the non lock up convertor to the lock up trans?

26 splines lock up, been a minute since I played with one. 727 was the last about 9 yrs ago.

That's probably a early 80s transmission if it's a lockup IIRC the lockup started in 1979
You will have use a lockup converter with it
