Hey Everyone,

Been a while! Anyhow, I am hearing a clicking or cracking sound when
I go around a turn in my 1972 Duster. Can anyone confirm my thoughts
that it might be a bearing. Changed the bearings on both sides of front
and am still getting the noise. Could it be something else?

I hear it only when I make a turn and it is only on the front passenger side.

Thanks!

Did you change both inner and outer bearings on both sides as well as the races?

Yes I did and I seated the bearing by bcranking down the nut until the shop manual said to then backed it off just a touch. Are you supposed to grease the spindle and inside of hub before installing the hub and tighten it down to seat the bearings? What could I have done wrong during the installation of the new races and bearings. Bearing were packed and races were set. Darnit!!!

Lots of things it could be from the hubcap to the lower arm bushing pin. Sometimes it's just a hubcap or trim ring making the noise. I would put it up on jack stands and inspect everything.

A bearing clicks or growls going straight; turning noise is something worn out in suspension.

I am in agreement with green1. I am willing to be that it is either an inner or outer tie rod end possibly with a loose nut. You would not hear it going straight but as soon as you turn the tie rod end could click or clunk as the pressure is put on it. I know when I changed mine one of my cotter pins was missing. It is possible his is also and castellated nut may have come slightly loose allowing for more play then usual.

Just a thought based on my experience but the hubcap is possible as well.

Does it sound rotational, multiple clicks, or is it just one click and stops? I had a problems on my 95 truck, drove me nuts. It turned out the lug nuts were worn and bottoming out on the hub and were not tight to the wheel only. Every time I turned a corner I would hear click click click............

Something to check.
