my 62 lancer has a 5 gallon range before running out of gas from full
who sells fuel tank pickup ?
what is the best way to siphon the remaining 11 gallons to fix the problem?
there is a better way than sucking on a garden hose? i hope

You can get a hand pump at your local auto parts store or rig up an electric fuel with a long hose to syphon it out. Once you get it low enough, you can pull the sender. If you can't find a new sender, you can solder a new pickup tube or in a pinch, just add a length of fuel hose so it picks up at the bottom again.

what is the process for dropping tank and accessing sending unit?
anybody know part number for sending unit ,seems that is the only way to find parts

The Chrysler part number for the sender is 2209296 which they show fitting '61 and '62 Lancer and Valiant. The tank number is 2074056 which they show as '62 only.

If I read it right, the tank comes down by removing the strap(s), fuel lines, sender wire. Then you lower it at a diagonal (on the same centerline axis as the filler pipe) as the fuel filler tube is just in a rubber donut gasket that slides onto the fuel tank hole. Might be able to repair the sender, usually its the thin wrapped coiled wire that the slider runs on, or a broken part of that wire to ground.

on off note today took car to a car show in ga,
and a lamborghini diablo parked next to me for the afternoon
and chatted with the owner and he said you cannot beat the cool factor
of my lancer at any price. boy was i beaming home after the show
