My '06 Ram was looking pretty tired and beat up so I thought I would try out the latest trend, dipping. Cleaned, dried, and then taped up Big Red and shot her with some Electric Lime Green dip from DipYourCar.com. Start to finish (as in driving home from the shop) is was only about 5-1/2 hours.

Used their DYC sprayer which kind of like a Wagner power sprayer. Had a little bit of a learning curve since it sprays so much more product than I am used to with my usual gun but overall I am pretty happy with the results.

Cool. looks like a quick way to change the look of the vehicle.
How easy does it come off if starts to peel or your tired of the look or if it.

I'm thinking this is a great alternative for the matte finish hood treatment that some of the cars came with back in the day. I'm really thinking about doing my Duster in plasti-dip this time around because it'll be a daily driver. When I completed the car about 8 yrs ago it took all of 3 days before someone gave it a nice door ding at work.
How much dip did it take to do the whole truck?

Do you shine it with Armor-all? Looks like a great alternative to stripping a clearcoat car for a quicky. I like it! I saw a 'dipped' matte yellow metallic new corvette at a car show, looked killer.

Interesting.......turned out looking pretty good.

Just got dont looking at DYC.com man some of those really turn out nice. A ferrari !
What is the surface like? does it hide imperfections or not really? think it would be easy to touch up?

Seems like a good temporary alternative......

That really looks nice.... and I love the "Kermit the Truck" symbol on the hood! Great job!

I know here in Ontario, Canada plastidip paint in a rattle can is like $20 / can. It would take alot of cans to a full size ram
Actually, it is available in sprayable gallons. I used 4-1/2 gallons of the Electric Lime Green. Rattle cans would have taken forever plus would cost a lot more. Retail on the materials would be around $350, but I never pay retail LOL. I spent less than $500 on 5 gallons of lime green, a gallon of black, AND the sprayer.

The main reason I did it was to see how it works and if i can make money at it. The Restoration work that I have been doing as a ways to make ends meet just does not pay enough and people don't seem to understand how labor intensive it is and how quickly costs ad up.

Guys around here get about $1000 to dip a 4-door truck. That is about 1/3 the price it would cost to have a truck painted and 1/2 the price of a vinyl wrap. If I can charge $900 and make about $500 for less than a day's work, that sounds awesome to me. I've already got my first customer lined up to do his old Mercedes SUV. It's going matte black with camo green camouflage patterns and a lime green logo for his business. I am doing his at cost plus time since he has a Gym in the same complex as my shop. He's got a ton of clients and they all have cars and most importantly, money LOL

The matte finish hides a TON of defects on the body. My bumper is totally abused. My tail gate is trashed too.

A lot of people with high dollar cars that are leased have started to dip their cars to preserve the factory finish while making their car look more personalized.

The main thing about peeling it is that you have to have enough material on the vehicle. The more material, the easier the peeling process. I peeled the green off of my bumper to show another neighbor how easy it was since I was planning on shooting it with the black anyways

Thanks for the feedback-

I saw on their site that you can become a "certified dipper/sprayer" - good luck with that I hope you do well. Those DYC guys seem to really have their act together and have really capitalized on this stuff.

Yeah they do. The owner of the company, Fonzie, has become a millionaire thanks to this trend. Did you see their cars on the rack this weekend at the Nascar race? Smart guy who got ahead of the curve.

I got the material in today to do my neighbor's SUV. Plan on shooting it Saturday for him. I'll post some pics of the finished product. should look pretty cool

Dipped my shop neighbor's Mercedes SUV to help advertise his Cross Fit Gym - reaction has been great

He wanted to keep the wheels silver? Those look the best dipped. Good luck on your venture! I was going to wrap my old beater mini-truck, lots of flat panels...

Yes, he wanted to leave the wheels silver but is now considering changing them to eith ermatte black or the electric lime green like my truck/his graphics

dipped another one today - it was a really beat up F150 that was 3 different colors, tons of scrathes, patches of bondo showing, overall one hot mess. Now, night & day

What is the secret to pulling off the masking tape without pulling the dip with it?
