I’m getting sick of it being so hard to get parts. Three years ago I waited 9 months on a roller cam and finally cancelled. To this day the cam is still 3 months out but changes by the week. So nobody’s made billit cores for three years now? Now I ordered a converter. Supposed to ship the 16th of January. Still not here. Looked up my order and now ship date is march 4th and getting pushed back weekly. This is getting real old,but I guess I better get used to it. Covid screwed everything up.

who are you doing business with?

i think i remember you saying hughes for the cam, which that's par for the course.

but a converter? there's tons of companies out there that could fulfill an order.

it can be a little more expensive to use smaller or local companies, but for that small price increase you generally get stellar customer service. sometimes though, if you want it right now, you pay right now pricing.

And to rub the salt in, the quality seems to get worse over time.

I've learned that there are many parts alternatives if you're willing to makes compromises. Plenty of cam shops have cores that may work for you. Maybe look to see if you can buy a core from another company and send it to your preferred grinder for the lobes you want? Gotta turn over every stone these days it seems.

did you try calling either and ordering direct? sometimes talking to somebody with boots on the ground can be very helpful.

Ken Heard at Oregon Cams. Nuff said.
When I talked to him, the only problem they had was getting good cores. If I understood him correctly, there has to be enough material to remove enough material and still get the grind he's going for

He has new cores. Last the last time I talked to him he did. And if he does not, the guy at Delta Cams always says he has cores.

I've heard of Delta cams before. How come nobody talks about them? Is there something wrong with that outfit? I thought about using them for the cam on my /6 but decided to go with Oregon because of more buzz about them on places like here.

Also I've been hearing about a Hughes for transmission parts particularly converters. Are they related to Hughes engine? In other words would I have to put up with Dave at the Hughes transmission business? I see parts for other brands than just Mopar at the transmission place.

Naw, they are fine as far as I know.

I have used Delta, my son's truck, daily ride for more than 4 years now. They actually got it done sooner than they told me they would. They had cores, and at the time Oregon didn't. This was a hyd. roller cam.

No, Hughes engines (Illinois) is not Hughes Performance (Arizona).

Nobody has cores especially cast cores. Most want you to send them a core.
Don't know how big of a cam you are looking for but I recently got quotes on a mechanical roller from Jones, Schneider, and Racer Brown and they all confirmed they had cores on hand and were looking at 3-4 week lead. I was looking for something in the .600-.625 lift at the valve. Racer Brown was not comfortable with that because his lobes would get through the hard layer on something that small, so he wanted .650 or more lift on the cores he currently had. Howards gave me a longer lead time and the order had to be made through a third party like Hughes or Summit. Bullet had cores as well but was 6-8 weeks lead. I understand the lead time, this is the busiest time of year for them with everyone trying to get builds done during the off-season, at least up here.

I got the Bullet cam in 4 weeks, got a Crower cam in 4 weeks and got my Coan converter in 6 days. The cam's were in late summer and the converter was yesterday.

I had the same issue with Howards cam in 2022. Ordered a cam was supposed to be 6-8 weeks out. I even called one time and asked about the status of it as the expected ship date was like 2-3 days away and they said yep looks like it will ship than. Only to get a notification it got pushed out another 3 months 2 days later. After a 9 month screw around I cancelled the order, called up Racer Brown and had a camshaft in 2 weeks. Haven't had to deal with convertors lately thankfully, but ATI and Trans Specialties were good to me in the past.
