I thought S&S Cycles bought and owns Crane cams...?
I also thought General Kinetics was bought by Lunati, then when Holley bought Lunati GK was just shut down....?

My first engine build was a 440. I used the MPP 284/.528/112 solid cam. I used it many times after that in both my cars and friends cars. That's a great cam for a street/strip car.

Old 284/.484 DC cam in my 383 69 Charger. Almost 4300#'s of car...went 13.05 at about 105.5. Used to drive it 34 miles to Quaker City dragstrip and have some fun. But the 292/.509 DC cam in the 440 that went in later was my favorite!

I used that cam in my first performance LA build, a 360 for my '71 Demon. Worked fantastic on the street and pulled (I couldn't believe it!) 15-16"hg vacuum at idle (800-900rpm). Ran 7.80s in the 1/8mi with 273 valve gear and later ran 7.60s with 1.6 Crane rollers and some other tweaks. Always wanted to try one in a big block, especially after Andy F reported his dyno findings. Very durable and stable at RPM.

Okay I'm a little late to this party and did not have the opportunity to read every post but in the early '70s DC mocams weren't even available yet I will agree that the 508 / 292 hydrocam was a powerhouse in a high compression 340 with a set of 430 gears and an m1 single plane etc .but Ican't believe no one mentioned the fireball 300 by crane that was a go to 340 cam of the early 70s on the street. It came in with a intake of 226 at 50 and an exhaust of 232 on a 110 center I believe. combined with a LD 340 ,750 Holly ,headers a,4speed,410 gears you were definitely a Street bully!

I have that cam on my shelf. It came in a 340 I bought pulled out of a duster that was rolled. I think lift is like .447 which is ok for stock heads.

There was also one all the Chevy guys used. The 327 350HP cam. Tried as I did, I could not tell their stupid asses it was way too much cam for most applications they were using it for. That cam was made for 11:1 compression and most were stabbing them in 8:1 motors. .447 and 306 advertised and 222 @ .050 on a 114. None of them I ever saw would pull a greasy string outta a cat's ass. in fact, I outran one of them in a 71 307 2 barrel three speed Camaro I had. He was mad as hell too.

Yes that lift sounds about right, I also have a fireball 300 greased up in rags on the my garage shelf. I always thought it would make a great spray cam

Yes, S & S bought Crane, but now Comp Cams owns it. CC own a raft of companies. They own Holley, MSD, plus others, & recently bought Edelbrock.

80s 90s and 2000s still might go to list. I pick them up off eBay on the New old stock list occasionally

Somebody should tell Comp Cams that Edel owns them, not the other way round, because Edel is listed on the CC website as one of the many brands that CC owns.

Its hard to beat the 292/.508 Mopar cam, i ran it last year in my 360, but i switch to the modern day solid version from Bullet 282/.510, you would be surprise how many rpms you can turn with these specs.

Any one here run an old Herb McCandless White Lightning cam. They were long duration low lift cams. Like 306 dur. and .475 lift. He said it would leave the competition seeing purple.

Look up my old school 340 build...that might be the cam I used...although I saved $50 by getting it for free
