Goodbye old friend..

-
We lost a 13.5 year old female Labrador named Jody almost two years ago i know the loss you are feeling today and tomorrow. Our dog experienced the onset of a msyndrome the vet called "ODV" or old dog vestibular syndrome. Her eye shook from side to side and she was so dizzy she could not stand. We hospitalized for 3 nights and they mildly sedated her to see if she would recover. Since she did not recover we went in to be with her while our DVM who had treated her since she was 7 weeks old put her to sleep. She was alert but so she knew us but she could not stand or walk. We brought her home and buried her in a marked grave that we can view out the patio doors. We still miss her. I'm very sorry for your loss. Steve

I'm sorry. It takes true love and strength to do the right thing for your loved one. I've been in your shoes many times and it never quite seems to get easier every time that decision has to be made. Only with time does the initial pain wear off. Focus on the happy memories....you'll see him again one day. My condolences.

Sorry to hear about your loss. We have a 14 yr. Old Yorkie that is blind, partially deaf, and missing most of his teeth. He gets around surprisingly well, but I know that the day is coming soon that we will have to make the same decision that you made. I really dread that day.

Your dog is your best friend, being able to make the decision to end his suffering, is what makes you his best friend. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear of your loss!! But you are doing the right thing for him, and that is a courageous thing, albeit a very hard thing to do. Our pets, while the cold-hearted(I know a few people like that) say they are just animals, they are not, they become a family member, with unique personalities that no other pet will ever possess. To allow him to exit this world with dignity is a noble thing to do, and the right thing to do!!

Godspeed

FF

Sorry to hear about this Grant but rest assured he is in the "Land of Slow Squirrels" and free of pain. I've been there too and had to make the decision myself more than once and it's not a fun thing to do. I'm hoping that this little poem will help you get through this time of grief:

I’m Still Here

Friend, please don't mourn for me,

I'm still here, though you don't see.

I'm right by your side each night and day,

And within your heart I long to stay.

My body is gone but I'm always near,

I'm everything you feel, see or hear.

My spirit is free, but I'll never depart,

As long as you keep me alive in your heart.

I'll never wander out of your sight.

I'm the brightest star on a summer night.

I'll never be beyond your reach.

I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.

I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around,

And the pure white snow that blankets the ground.

I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond,

The clear cool water in a quiet pond.

I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring,

The first warm raindrop that April will bring.

I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,

And you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.

When you start thinking there's no one to love you,

You can talk to me through the Lord above you.

I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,

And you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.

I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep,

And the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.

I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.

Just look for me, friend, I'm everyplace!

You had your friend's best interest in mind making the decision. Difficult, but very brave.....Condolences to you and your family.

Great poem ramcharger!

Dogs can be some of your best family members and the hardest to loose.
RIP Fargo.
Its a tough then to do but its for the best.

Thank you all for the words of inspiration, condolensces, and of your past and current joys and sorrows. It truly means a lot to me, and words cannot express how you have all made me feel better at this time. It was a hard day to spend, and we all were witness to his being set free. Yes, it hurt, and tears were shed, but at the same time we all knew it was for the best, and we realized our decision was the correct one.

Thanks for the beautiful poem Joe.

Again, thanks to all.

Grant

From one GSD owner to another, I feel for ya man. Charley is 14 and his hips ain't what they used to be.

It's never goodbye, it's just until you see them again....

I just sat down with my wife, daughter and our other buddy Hector. We read aloud each of your beautiful posts, and we cried a little, laughed a little, and after we were done, we all felt a little better. Hopefully Hector will understand too, he has been a little down during the last bit, and having just taken him out, he is a little lost.

Hector was a neglected dog that lived down the street from us a few years back. Every time he got off his leash, he was over to visit his bud Fargo. One cold winter night, he was at our front door, and we took him in for the night. My wife took him back the next day and mentioned to his owner that if he was ever looking to find a home for him, we would take him. He came home with her for good, and the two were inseparable.

Night all..
Grant

Sorry to hear about your loss too. I think everybody has gone through with this at one time or another as I have within the last year. He will live on in your memories and you will meet at the Rainbow Bridge. Here is what we did to remember our dog.
