Got a favorite dog breed? Which one and why?

Yes, God only knows the hurt we suffer when we lose one of these friends, guardians, companions. But I have to always tell myself, no matter how hard, the immense hurt I feel, is so very small to the love and joy they give.
I have to feel we will be united in the life after this Earth.

This sums up very well how I feel, it's always very difficult to say goodbye, but when compared with the lifetime of unconditional love, it's nearly inconsequential. When my time comes there's a lot of great dogs waiting for me.

We love our Westies. In the foreground is 6 month old Finnegan, aka Finn, with Big Sis Luna, 10 y.o. behind him. Out of the frame is my wife in the bathroom. They were waiting for her to get ready to go with us for their walk. Finn has some very big paws to fill. We lost our first westie Sammy, in February. He was just this unflappable, confident, devil may care and outgoing little guy absolutely loved by everyone in our neighborhood. After he passed, Luna just wasn't the same dog. Still sweet and affectionate but we could see that she missed her big brother. We'd often find her lying on his bed or in one of his favorite spots. When we found out our breeder was still around, we contacted him and found out he had a litter going home in September. Hemmed and hawed a little but we went to meet Finn and his brother as we wanted another boy. Luna came with us to meet them. She was kind of annoyed at first but would soon play with them. Long story short, we brought him home in September and Luna has her joy back. They play with each other all the time. And as it turns out, Finn is from Sammy's bloodline. Sometimes he's so much like Sam it hurts. Sleeping beside me in my office right now just like Sammy did.

Short sorta funny story.
I am old and my mother was old when I was born in 1948. She had graduated HS and her farmer dad sent her to Chicago (of all places) for I guess a semester or quarter in business school. She returned to the farm and her 13 dogs and a job as a teller at the local small town back She was a dog lover, maybe that is where I got my love/ This was at the beginning of the Great Depression ( the real one).
Ypou ask how could they feed 13 dogs. They had a large farm and lots of hands and all scraps went to feed them.

Love my Dacshund... and he loves me back...but he would trade me off in an instant for a piece of chicken!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or one ride in the pickup!!!!!! :BangHead: :steering:   :thankyou:
We'd joke that Sammy would do that. However, Finn takes "food motivated" to a whole new level. Makes him very easy to train. For example, "focus" took 2 attempts for him to get it. 2nd time, he planted his butt and looked at me with a laser stare. He was the rock star of his puppy class because nothing distracts him from a treat.

Been wanting another Lab ever since we lost our Bear, Bart and Scrappy several years ago/ but I keep getting shot down on that one. We have been on a cat "run" for a while now. We got our monster and Gizmo (cats) while we still had bart and Scrappy, who died off and the cats lived on. Monster (all black fixed male cat) just died at 16 last week, had to put him in the ground behind the house....and then there's max, another black fixed male, 4 months old, got my wife for Christmas. I thought our Gizmo was having problems, as it turns out at 15 he was deemed "very healthy" with a little arthritis last week by the vet. So we're back to 2.
We had the 3 cats for a week and a half and we lost monster. Which was a big surprise. Who was also 4 months old when we got him.
Our cats never go outside except when they have to go to the vet
