With the help of my two friends Ron and Ron, plus the owner with his back hoe we got the 54' on a trailer. We must have cleaned out 100+ #s of rat and mouse crap from the cab out in a field in B.F. Colorado with shovels, dust pans, garden rake, respirators, gloves and safety glasses. We took it from there to a car wash and proceeded to clean it out the best we could. Once it got wet, man it stunk! :tongue6: We got it home and it will sit till next year when we can afford to work on it. I ran the serial # and it is a 1954, C1 series. # 6389 out of only 12,923 made between July 1953 and March 1955 and one of only 7,075 V8 short wheel base. Does that mean it's rare? LOL!
The engine in the bed turns out to be the original 241 Poly stamped VT334. It's froze. The Poly under the hood is stamped D55I or D551. Based on my research it is a 270 from a 55' Dodge car. 175 hp compared to the 145 gross hp on the 241. I pulled the plugs and they look sweet! Engine turns free. I soaked the cylinders with knocker-loose and will do a comp. & oil psi. test later today
I will photo document this project as it occurs and do updates. I know it's not an A body but it's from the same loin. Hope that's ok.

Very nice truck. I would love to have an old truck like that in my garage. Make sure you let us see lots of pictures.

I think it's cool. Do you have the glass for it?[/QUOTE]
I wish! The front windshield I can get new for $275 + ship. The corners are not reproduced:( Found some nos on fleebay for $300 each + ship. Ouch! I will keep looking as I build it. I have a friend who knows a guy (I know) that makes acyclic or lexan windows for custom built air planes. This may be an option although I sure would like to put in glass. All the other glass is flat.

I think an a833 and 4.10's would do better or 3.55 with the granny. That way you do a little better than 12hwy lol

SWEEET!! I would definitely look at acrylic corner windows (not lexan, scratches too easy). You can always replace them with glass later if you find them reasonably priced somewhere. I would think someone who is good with acrylic could make them for about 100$ for the pair.

That's a great idea! I didn't think of acrylic the other day when we were swapping ideas that he could work with

I have that as an affordable option to glass!
I have all the rubber seals. Some good some not. Good templates for making new ones.

I had a chance at a 5-window years ago. My *** still hurts from kicking it. lol Long gone now... or still there and I can't remember where it was parked... DOH!!!

Nice! I love old pickups. Especially the ones you don't see everyday. Ex, 56 Ford, 55/6/7 Chevs, but I like those too. I threw a Ford drive train in this IHC, and am seriously considering a Dakota frame and drive train swap for the 58 Town Panel. However you go, good luck on this one. Subscribed. :D

I had a 56 swb years ago, swapped a stock 318 and 904 in it.
Sold it after a couple of years.
The old six and three speed is still laying out behind the barn.
