Got unloaded yesterday just in time to go get a cortisone shot in each knee yesterday. Felt good enough to spend over 7 hours almost getting one head finished before I stopped to eat at 7:30. Planet fitness in the morning then I’ll see how far I can get on the second head tomorrow. My customer has been very patient as I told him yard work and racing has to come first.

As always thanks for sharing. Were these flowed before and will they be flowed after?

No before numbers only because I’ve flowed probably at least 6 other stock heads exactly like it. Wasted time at this point. These will be the first set given a 5 angle valve job on my new seat grinder. My heads on my 408 weren’t even given that treatment. I’ll flow one export and two or three intake ports.

I just kiss it 'iirr' with a 1 7/8 or 1 11/16 size 30 degree stone thats radiused edged to bowl the chamber wall nicely off the 30..then narrow the lower portion of the 45 with a 60 1 5/8 and a slight drop of a 70 below. It feels real nice when you roll your finger over those angles...then I just round off the ssr to a lip at the floor that aims just at or a hair lower than the top of the port window. They do 215-218cfm with nothing else done. I really like those exhaust ports. Good work John. I wanna get around to tubing mine at some point.

Only ported for 4 hours today but I got the other head all roughed in except for the exhaust exit and that doesn’t take long. Then I will set both heads aside and take time to do a nice clean-up before I put the finish shaping on all the ports. I hate to do that while shavings are everywhere. Someone asked my awhile ago what my pinch measurements were and I don’t think I ever posted it up. The Speedmaster heads start at an odd shaped .910 pinch and if I stop as soon as I see the tube in one spot I’m at 1.010 so basically a .100 gain in area from top to bottom of the pinch. That’s a nice gain an slows the speed to a controllable fps.

Hey one thing I forgot to add was this was the first major work I’ve done with the burrs that Rat Bastid recommended. Man I’m not a lover of a single flute aluminum type of burr until I tried these. I didn’t even try the double cut burrs yet because the single cut worked so smoothly. I will be place another order hopefully for a few with a smaller head. I’ve been using the one on the far right and roughing in those two heads in probably half the time as my old favorite double cuts. Thanks Rat and I miss your posting

Well both heads are probably 95% finished now. I always stop now and do a quick cleanup so when I put the finishing touches on them I’m not laying in all the grinding’s. This is probably 1/2 of what I removed. Breakfast with my mens church group tomorrow morning then I finish my clean up and switch over to getting ready to go racing at keystone on Saturday.
