on an A body car with a 340 and stock gear ratio (3:23)

stock tires and springs...don't know what is under the hood

just need to settle a little "discussion"

what kind of horsepower would be required

to break the tires loose while driving at approx 20 mph?

Assuming stock size tires, an honest 300 would fry them to pieces. As long as it's in top tune.

When I first bought my 73 Dart Sport 340 4 speed,it would light up the tires cruising in 2nd gear with ease(roughly 275-300hp)Now with the stroked 340(450hp)it,s a bit of a handful when punching it at any speed!LOL

thanks for all the info

sounds like I won the "discussion" and will be getting some beer

Depends on if you're stomping on the brakes or the gas.:munky2:

My 500 HP 440 in the 73 Duster, no sweat. My 318 300 HP 904 auto at 20 mph roll, no sweat. Dont jerk around with it if the pavement is damp.
Small block

my old stock 318 in a 86 dodge truck would smoke the tires, from a 20mph roll, and just get stupid from a dead stop, I miss that truck.
