Hello all...
Just wanted to reach out and ask for some help. My Brother in law has a 71 Duster he bought to redo, and its missing the rear wiring harness. I have been trying to find out if this is a one year deal, and why they are so hard to come by. Someone said it has something to do with the rear light sockets. I have been getting some mixed answers and figure this platform has so much knowledge and experience that you all will be the best source of information.
Thank you in advance for any help and light you can shine on this for us!!

Lets Go to the 70-71 parts book and see if the harness is listed.

Based on what I know of earlier cars, its the "body" wiring harness.

looks like you specifically need a 71 Duster harness. Although you can check the '72 parts book to see if the same number was used for following model year. '73 is different.

The body harness starts behind the left front kickpanel. it runs along the inside rocker to the axle hump and then along the left side of the trunk.

I may have one. I have a box full of 70-71 harnesses. finding the box would be the issue due to moving. 70 just has a different wrap.

What do you HAVE? That is, was it hacked off and the rear sockets left in the lamps, etc? if so you could modify another year. The rear harness is not all that complicated

A wire for the rear trunk light if used
A wire for the fuel sender
A wire for both tailights
A wire for EACH stop and turn lamp
A wire for the reverse lamps.
Probably grounding wires from part of the harness for the tail lamp sockets

Well the former owner must have robbed the whole thing. Just disconnected it under the dash and took it all. And what we are running into seems to be that something with the sockets makes it a 71 only item. thanks for your help so far! if i had the sockets i think i could make one myself. have done that with other cars.

thanks old man that would be awesome let me know!!

Old Man...
if you do have something that would work for us what would you think you would need for it??
thanks again for looking!

If it was cut under the dash, then you will need an instrument harness, or partial instrament harness as well. Look now, it will save on having half finished project stalled while looking for parts.
