i want to switch out my 727 for a 904. how do i id it? was told get a low gear one and does th 6cyl. one fit a small block?

Why do you want to do this?

/6, SB, BB engines are all three different bell patterns

You'll need a 904 converter, slip yoke, and different length driveshaft

brian/imm said it would pic up a tenth to a tenth and a half.

And he's right.

IIRC, a 1980's /6 trans would have the low gear set in it. You can look around and usually find the sets for sale in the 50-100 range.

The drivers side trans pan flange will have numbers stamped in it.

what benefits do you get with the low gear first?

the car will launch harder with the lower gear set...2.74 vs 2.45

problem is the rpm drop into second gear....or you can get the complete low gear set of 2.74/1.54...vs 2.45/145

just need to find the right donor trans

sounds like more work than i wan't to go threw.
