Nikkis birthday is on May 7th and 99.9% of the time she figures out what I got her months in advance. This time she has no idea and it's pissing her off...bad. I want to get her an Ipod so I looked on ebag "buy it now" and found a bunch of NEW ones. I figure that 30gig is fine, she doesn't need video and it should be a new one.
They have them all the way up to 7th gen (what are they friggin camaros?) with 4.5, 5.5 inbetween. What is the best one, do some have more problems than others? I figure that video is just one more thing that can go bad on them and she is just going to use it for music anyways.

Here is the page with the buy it now 30 gigs.

I'm sorry but i wouldn't touch a ebay ipod with a stick. I bet some of them are good deals, but too risky for me.

I just bought a new 4gb nano for $150. Yea its not the most memory, i have the overhaulin episode of my dads car on it, 200 songs, bunch of car pictures and such and still have 2gb left.

My girl has the 80gb? that was $250 that thing you can store a ton of crap on. But unless you plan on putting a bunch of movies on it, you dont need that much storage at all.

I feel the same about ebay ipods thats why I wanted a new one that is still sealled and they have them on there. She will just be useing it for music, no video, and I have 2 extra hard drives worth of music in my desktop so we can fill a 30 gig in one shot. I have an 80 gig dell mp3 player that is full with just music.

They are all video except the really tiny ones. I have the 8o gig 6th? gen (got it last aug) and love it. I have always wanted one and it has not disappointed. I have have 0 problems so, so far I would say it is a great product.

I have a 30 gig gen 5.5... had it about 18 months and still works great, and I never have to listen to the radio again! Buy a nice protective case while you are at it....

I bought my wife and son each a Nano for Xmas, the 8 GB version. When they went down to florida I loaded each of them up with a couple of movies to keep them entertained. They both have a whole load of music on them, too, and still have free space.

I think the 4/8 GB models use memory, the bigger sizes use hard drives. The hard drive models can skip if they get banged around, I don't think the memory ones can.

I've got a Shuffle for myself, I use it when I'm mowing the lawn or out working on the car. It's tiny and has really good sound. Very impressive for a little device.

BTW, I wouldn't buy one from anybody eBay, I'd get one from a dealer. Just in case...

I'm still working with a 1GB Nano from 2005. I can't imagine any version worse than the previous generation. I would just pick one up from Best Buy, Fry's or Circuit City.

Yeah there are 2 of them that I know of. Will the nano work with all the speaker cradles that they have for Ipods?

All ipods, to the best of my knowledge, have the same date input/output on the bottom. And they all of course have the same headphone output. There are many options for using an ipod to play music at home and in the car, and they should all be compatible with the any generation ipod.

I bought a kit to change my cars CD changer into an ipod changes. Now I can shuffle 3000 songs right from my factory radio, and it works with my ipod 30 gig, my little bor in-laws nano, and sister in-laws ipod touch...

i bought my 30 gig over a year and a half ago, and use it with a plug in transmitter so i can listen to it via the radio in my truck, tractors, farm trucks etc. But, i killed the battery in it by leaving it plugged in in my truck all the time. Dont' do that, cause then you can't update it. I should get it fixed sometime...

If she has a lot of music the bigger is better. Also if she is an audiophile she will want to rip music to either a higher bit rate or lossless format which takes up mega space. If it is in your budget I would get the video one even thought she won't use it for that. I have never played videos on mine but I love the bigger screen size to read stuff easier. Also it displays album covers which to me is nice cause I can never remember alum names but I can allways remember the cover of the cd I want to listen to.
