Is Hot-rodding & Hotrods on their way out

-
Matthew said hello and you need to come to the Corona store more often! He's mentioned you often and loves the fact that you engage in conversation about his Dart. Thank you.
I told him about duct tape drags. You guys need to load up the dart and head out to Tucson with us.

I'd say that's their loss, you have a bunch to offer in any build or porting discussion.
Thanks.
They fixed that. I still wanna know who did that. Was it the same mod that temp banned us both, a mod I never seen on here before who's fairly new compared to the bunch of us contributors on here..

I have visions of a nascar inspired street car on goodyear slicks front and back.
in my minds eye, it was totally that.

reality was more the widest black wall mastercraft's i could fit on some E250 rims from the 'yard with falcon dog dishes.

oh and it was an early 63, before the mid year "sports roof". absolutely amazing highway car and surprisingly nimble in the canyons for such a tug boat!

I am SOooo old, my school, 1st grade thru HS did not even have AC or screens on the windows! But we did have indoor plumbing and they served lunch. 25 cents per day! The principal dished out free "behavior" corrections with a 3 foot long "paddle" 1 inch thick. He said, take out your wallet, hold onto my desk, and I will see how far I can lift your *** off the floor". Usually about a foot or so.
I remember it like yesterday, I must have a good memory for 77 years old? Or am I 87?? Don't remember. :BangHead:
Did they still mark the years in Roman numerals?

My grandpappy used to sit us down and tell stories of the olden days.

Him and his crew were hot rodding real cars, swapping out fenders and swapping in flat head V8s.

No seat belts or headrests, they were real men.

Young folk into them fancy 'supercars' with strange girly color names, like Sassy Grass, Lemon Twist, and Moulin Rouge.

Sounds like a pretty lady's dress color, drink, and lipstick, be a man dammit!

He told us, hot rodding and real hot rods were on the way out.

REAL cars.. have stick shift, NO AC or radio, and usually NO windshield wipers. Maybe a back seat...sometimes if y:BangHead::thumbsup::steering:ou are fancy!!!!
I like all the creature comforts. I've had a stick car for many moons... This current car I have is an auto, and I like it. This is just me

I have both, a stick car with leather seats, a/c, cruise control, decent sound system, etc, and one that is automatic transmission, bench seat, and no other options. Both are fun to drive but now that I am a bit older I much prefer the creature comforts on a long trip.

I always dreaded if I would live long enough to not be able to work a clutch. Yep, that day arrived about last year.
I love the stick!

I am there. It was fun but not fun any more for me. My knee and hip starts screaming when driving around town. I hated to but I sold my 66 Dart but I replaced it with the 64 Polara and I am really enjoying that car.

Driving in a parade will kill your knees and your clutch. :BangHead:

I hear the same from my other hobby, model trains. The truth is it that hobby is growing based on sales of new products but the old timers think it is dying. It’s not it’s just changing. Young people communicate differently and don’t typically do the club thing like we use to because there is so much information out there at your fingertips the need to join clubs is not there anymore.

Model trains are awesome some older gentleman come out local mall set up a sweet track. They love to talk trains especially to the kids. Usually happens once a year, hopefully it continues.

Back to the title : Are hot rods and hot rodding on the way out?

I say this. The biggest deterant to such is the overpricing of projects, the cost of used/new/repop parts and materials, and just overpriced stuff in general in our hobby. What it takes in $ and work to build any old car. What a person has invested in any old car "restored" to what ever level, be it a driver or nut and bolt car.
A rusted out, half parted out "common" model is not always worth anywhere what people them "price" at on MarketPlace 99% of the time. How many ever sell for that ask price????? Darn few when overpriced and few if not a worth model to spend $$ on.
Want to know what any car is worth? Sell one! Better yet, buy on and then sell it! Then you learn!!!!!

It is not that the younger generation is general has no interest, it is the total cost than throws cold water on the game!
Take the situation of the current housing market and the "young" adult family. They want a home NOT an apartment but........ unless anyone lives under a rock, they understand their situation in general.

I know, if selling, "start high and come down" and just price it at 3 times what any same person would feel it worth in reality!!!! Really??????????? That is half what is wrong. JMHO

old timers think it is dying. It’s not it’s just changing.
No shortage of dopy kids lowering imports putting fart can mufflers on them and excessive camber. Lots of german car and Jeep enthusiast out there too. A lot of young ppl into vehicles but maybe not to our liking.

And like someone else mentioned, decades back the percentage of young ppl into cars was low back then. Most ppl even back decades ago viewed a car as a utility they didn't care and that is nothing new...

In my inquiries about all this subject I find there is still a few high schools who still have Auto shop with one school having a very good AG program happening within their school system as well as Auto shop. i have yet to learn why this is not present within many more schools with my old High School has a welding program turning out welders for the much needed welding field here in Texas. I'm still going to research this with the help from someone inside the system..... There are a lot of good points & comments brought up here. I was one of those young guys willing to take a hold of the wheel not really knowing if I was steering the truck the right way or not........now I wish I could tell all of you I still see that same spirit happening in our neck of the woods but I do not............. and yes I am still here...... and I'm trying to do something about it.......like taking my run engine stand to some of these high schools putting on a show n tell.
