Yeah heat it up and bend it back..
I know and I would do with it.. tie it to a long piece of rope and use it to keep my boat in one place on the river...The seller is correct. It can be straightened.
I don't know seems about the going price...$40 seems awfully cheap.
Chuck it up between two centers, a dial indicator and a little heat in the right spots...VIOLA!!.... straight shaft!! Some guys are really good at it. Might have to go .010 under to clean up??? I had a close friend who used to weld up the rod throws to make his own stroker cranks. He drove a funny car and was FAST!!!
My friend was a certified welder and a machinist to boot. So he would weld up the cranks then machine them himself. He built funny car frames at 40k a pop. He was/ is a smart dude and made a ton of money. You know, I've seen that done! probably 30 yrs ago... I was horrified when I saw him wail on it with a huge copper drift and a sledge hammer.
And just as you said, they turned it down to get the rest out of it.
The machine shop owner said, 'yeah, people aren't used to seeing that..' , ' major crank Mfg's do it all the time'
$40 seems awfully cheap.
If I was in the market for one I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Forgot to mention that the 40K was back in the 80s when he was building the funny car frames. The price has more than likely gone up^^^^^^It sure does !! Makes you wonder.... maybe there's a tap snapped off in the flange too.
Probably never sell it at $40, but would for $125
It's over on your end of the country too. I would think a bit of straightening, may be a little turning and a balance and it would be perfect.that's been bangin around in my head, since I saw it...
I know a real good crank guy..

I'd be all over that like a cheap suit if I was closer.I know, I know... I should just pull the trigger on this deal... a tank of gas, and I'll be crank happy
Get on it, doggonit.I know, I know... I should just pull the trigger on this deal... a tank of gas, and I'll be crank happy
