I wanna rebuild my 727 (if someone could provide a good source for a complete rebuild kit and a Torque converter, that'd help big time). I just wanna rebuild it back to stock specs and replace any parts that will normally fail and will probably grab one out of the junkyard as a core to rebuild.

Do you think it is possible for me to do this on my own with a book and have no problems or should I seek help? I've never been inside a transmission but I am very interested in rebuilding one and learning more.I also probably would need the tools. Any input would help. I am usually very careful and like to double check everything.

I am thinking of buying this book to help me rebuild it

I bought that book when I was thinking of rebuilding my 904. It's a good one.

you can do it x2. the atsg manual is a good start. the other book by munroe will take you to the next level.

I'll buy both probably then so I can read both as I go.

Anybody have any suggestions on parts? This is just gonna go behind a stock 318 and will get a shift kit. bout it. the 318 may get a cam in the future, but nothing major

search YouTube there is a multi part video done by some guys in New Zealand that shows the tear down and rebuild step by step , I used it to do my first 904 last year which is why I now tell everyone if the guy at trans shop tells you 1000 dollars labour to rebuild a torqueflite punch the guy in the face . It really is that easy then talk too TrailBeast OldKimmer and Fishy68 to get any other info you feel you need .

Thanks, it's been coming together. Glad to see you've got a good project and still learning.

Rebuild Parts:

Description says full race shifts, but can be configured from mild to wild.

There are no special tools required as far as i know other than a "three legged man" used in the youtube videos. Its really easy to do though. I took mine apart and put it back together with the same parts a couple times just to get a feel for it that way i didnt risk tearing up new stuff lol.

Torqueflites are one of the easiest trans to rebuild, think of it like a big carburetor rebuild.

Here is the step-by-step service guide that is needed:

Try to go as tight on the factory spec's as possible. Take your time, double check it, and then check it again.

How can I tell which rear band I have? will a 904 kit work with a 727? and what isn't in those kits?

and that was the exact shiftkit I was gonna get lol

wittrans.com is also a great supplier. Got all my stuff form them at a great price.

I would buy both the ASTG book AND the Munroe book.

Here are the 19-20 Torqueflite videos. I don't know other ways, but if you get Firefox, and get the "DownloadHelper" plug in, you can download and save the videos

Bingo thats the ones and thats how I saved them lol ,theres another short series of school kids working on 904s as well but the one you posted is the best by far , I also took the time to burn them onto a dvd so I can take the laptop out in the garage anytime and go through them step by step as I work .
