Jumper cables? Nah....there is a newer better solution.

Yeah, I must admit, even with the fiasco the EV car movement has turned out to be, battery technology has come a long way.

Everything has its uses, technology improves and everything moves on. I've been VERY impressed with the NOCO jump boxes. And you can use them like a big accessory battery too, so like for power outages and things you can use them to charge you phone, flashlights, etc too.

Thanks for the advice to those that offered it.
I decided to give this one a try:

Here we go.

This is compact enough to sit almost anywhere and not weigh 50 lbs.

Looks simple.

If all fails, there are directions.

Charging port on one end, jumper cable ports on the other.

Common electrical ports.

Simple charger unit.

It was at 76% when I opened the box, within 2 minutes...

I stepped away for about 5 minutes and it was at 100%. I'll test it soon and report back.

I have a Noco GB150 that I got a few years ago on cyber Monday deal. Just used it last week to start my E150 van and use it regularly to power my Viair 12vdc compressor to top off the fleet. Prior to this, I had an Antigravity jump box that worked but the plug in jumper cables were kinda cheesy. The Noco GB150 jumper cables are hard wired to the box, no cheesy plug.

That's very similar to the one I have. It works great! Don't expect it to turnover an engine with a completely dead battery. It's perfect if the battery just needs a little extra juice though. Mine's saved my *** a couple times - though I still carry jumper cables. I top off the charge every time I do an oil change as an easy way to remember.

Gooloo, Noco, hulkman all good
Schumacher - JUNK

I wanted something to take along on road trips and to boost a car here in the backyard that is not dead but just below the point of cranking over. I was surprised years ago when I saw this chart:

Until I read this, I was under the impression that battery voltage and percentage was linear......like 6 volts meant it had 50% charge. Learning that is is at 50% at 12.06 really surprised me.

Sorry for bringing back a year old thread but i was curious about how your hulkman has held up? I was going to order one today.. i see other options for 1/2 the price.. just curious if it's worth paying extra..

My brand new truck has a bad battery at 3 months old :( Gonna replace the battery but figure i should have a jumpbox just in case

I'm curious if any of these (@Kern Dog yours too) is capable of jumping a car with the negative cable disconnected? I'd be impressed with THAT. Also, Kern Dog, how long does it seem to hold a charge?

I have used this Hulkman here at home with cars that sit a long time. The unit holds a charge pretty good. I've had it sit awhile and still be at 85% when I went to use it. It does not provide a LOT of reserve where you could crank and crank an engine like with a fully charged battery. It helps start a car when the battery is just below the point of starting a car. It makes sense though given the small size of these things.
I have not tried using it as a mobile power source for running a small accessory like a fuel pump or car radio. I might see about that when I'm out back tinkering and looking for something to do.

I wouldn't expect one that small to crank an engine for a long time. I may look into one. You've given good info on it. Thanks.

I figured that these would be great in the situations where there are no people around to lend a hand or when you don't want to ask them.
