I just picked up a 318 motor and tranny to eventually build and transplant into my '68 Barracuda. My car has a nice 318 with a mild build on it in there right now that works perfect. Thing is, it's a motor from the mid '70's. Don't know why, just know I want a 1968 motor in my 1968 'cuda. Which brings us back to the motor I just got. The date on the block is 11-30-67.
Not the best pic, but hey, its a motor that's been sitting a long time
Came out of a running '68 Valiant at least 10 years ago and was stored outside under cover - never rained or snowed on Turns freely. Still has normal looking and smelling oil in it. Has power steering pump (still full), intake, air cleaner assy. and starter. No dizzy, ex. mans, or 2 barrel carb and linkage. Oh, also came with a functional 904 still attached. I paid $200.
Questions:
Good deal?
Heads are 675's - Anything special? I know they're the small valves.
Book says 318's from this year had 9.2 compression. That'd be nice since my current mid '70s probably has 8.2 at best. Is this true or a factory exageration? Are they still better than the 593's on the motor I'm running now?
Is it a drop in? Is the tranny?
